🌎 June 1 marks the beginning of Canadian Environment Week!

At , caring for the environment is part of everything we do. Thanks to visitors and staff, over 3,000 plastic bottles were recycled last year, with funds supporting local families. We’ve also installed water fountains across the site to help cut down on single-use plastics.

As we welcome more visitors this summer, small choices can make a big impact. Bring a reusable water bottle, sort your waste, and help protect this special place for generations to come.

Together, we can build a greener, more sustainable future. ♻️✨

Any guess what this tool is? 👀 It's called a draw knife, a cooper's must-have for barrel making.

With tools like this, coopers could shape each wooden stave into perfectly curved pieces, readying enough of them to form a cask or bucket. 🪵

In the 1800s, coopers at Fort Langley produced wooden casks of many size to ship salted salmon, cranberries, and farm goods all the way to places like Hawaii. Without these casks, the fort’s export economy simply wouldn’t have succeeded.

103 Years as a National Historic Site! 🏰🎉

In May 1923, Fort Langley earned its place on the map as a National Historic Site of Canada. But back then, it was a much quieter place—just one original Storehouse and a cairn marking its importance.

By 1931, the Storehouse opened to the public, and the stories began to be shared.

Today, more than a century later, visitors from around the world come to walk these grounds, uncover the past, and experience what makes Fort Langley so special.

Come discover it for yourself.
