MA TESOL Trinity Western University

MA TESOL Trinity Western University TWU is Canada's premiere Christian university. Our MA TESOL is open to students of all faiths and persuasions. Online Cohort. 100% online.

With both a 2 year online and a 1 year resident cohort, the TWU MA TESOL provides teachers with professional training to not only apply evidence-based methods to their classroom, but to engage in research in the ESOL field, to train teachers, to develop materials and currucula, and to prepare to enter competitive Ph.D. programs

The TWU MA TESOL uses a problem-based learning process where students

work in teams to research and apply that research to a specific teaching and learning context. The program ends with a 14-week internship, done in Canada or internationally. Students may do an online orientation or come to campus for a one week face to face orientation. The rest of the program is done online over a 25 month period, with two courses completed each semester. Students may extend the program and do just one course per semester. Resident Intensive Cohort. The Resident program is taught in one month intensive modules. Typically, students are actively involved in program tasks six hours per day, five days per week, with additional readings and research done outside of class. It is a "full time Job" for 12 months. Students generally live either on campus or in close proximity. The 14-week internship is arranged at the end of the 12 month study period.

Global Shore Opportunities is looking for 1-2 EFL teachers for the 2022 school year. These teachers work at our Christian school in Guatemala for 10 months, starting in the beginning of January and continuing through the end of October. This is a great opportunity for teachers who want to get practical teaching experience in a supportive and community-focused environment!

Teaching positions are for certified teachers or those with a TESOL/TEFL certification. (If you don't have your certification, you can obtain it through a program here in Guatemala at the beginning of the year in a few weeks if you would like to start teaching next year.)

TEFL staff join us in our mission of transforming Guatemala through Christ-centred education. More than a teaching position, TEFL staff are committing to ministry as a part of our staff, contributing and taking part in our calling. Rather than leading a North American mission, TEFL staff work in unity with Guatemalan staff who are ministering in their own culture. Our desire is that our cross-cultural staff would be one in Spirit, ministering together in unity and friendship.

This position is paid for through personal fundraising, which covers all expenses while on the ground. (This includes a $500/month stipend, flights to and from Guatemala, one-on-one Spanish lessons, housing, internet, out-of-country medical insurance, orientation and debrief costs, teaching materials, missionary care and professional development.) Coaching and accountability for fundraising is provided to all staff during their ministry term with Global Shore.

If you're interested in this position, you can contact [email protected] (TEFL Program Director, and a TWU Alumni!) or go to our website for more information.

The 2018 Symposium on Second Language Writing will take place August 2-4, 2018 at the Harbour Centre campus of Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The conference, in Canada for the first time in its twenty-year history, is jointly hosted by Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia.

This year’s theme is “Second Language Writing in Multilingual Contexts.” While second language writing as a field has always focused on writers who use multiple languages, in recent years the field has begun to contend with perspectives that bring multilingualism to the foreground in new ways. Come join teachers and scholars of second language writing from 30 different countries to learn about the latest research in this important area of English language teaching.

Register for the Symposium here: http://sslw.asu.edu/2018/registration.html

Plenary speakers:

Ryuko Kubota, University of British Columbia: Ideologies and realities on plurilingual academic writers in multilingual contexts: Seeking clarity and advocacy

Steve Marshall, Simon Fraser University: Writing in English as an additional language across the disciplines in higher education: Challenges, dilemmas, and plurilingual pedagogy

Guangwei Hu, Hong Kong Polytechnic University: A testing time for testing L2 writing: A proposal for a construct redefinition

Paul Kei Matsuda, Arizona State University and Nanjing University: Reexamining second language writing in the era of fluidity

Established in 1998, the Symposium on Second Language Writing is a premier international conference on issues related to writing in languages other than one's first language.
