The other guys aren't telling the truth. Again.

The current mayor’s slate says our councillors voted against the 212 connector, school fields, and the Walnut Grove and Aldergrove parks.

The council minutes are public. Nobody voted against the 212 connector. Every Walnut Grove and Aldergrove park vote passed unanimously.

And the land program they praise? Their own mayor cancelled it.

The Township of Langley is considering amendments to its Council Procedure Bylaw that raise important questions about governance, fairness, and democratic accountability.

The proposed changes would:

• Reduce the threshold for censuring elected officials from a two-thirds supermajority to a simple majority.
• Eliminate the requirement for an equalized Acting Mayor rotation among members of Council.

These are not minor administrative changes. They would alter long-standing procedural safeguards that help ensure significant disciplinary actions have broad support across Council and that ceremonial leadership opportunities are distributed fairly among elected representatives.

Regardless of where one stands politically, changes that affect the balance of power and the treatment of elected officials deserve careful public scrutiny and meaningful community input.

I encourage Township residents to review the proposed amendments and share their views with Mayor and Council before any final decision is made. Public participation is essential to maintaining transparent, accountable, and representative local government.

Democracy works best when citizens are informed, engaged, and willing to speak up on matters that affect how they are governed.

Langley Township’s 2026 election is officially starting to take shape with two organized slates now emerging:

Progress for Langley — Mayor Eric Woodward

Langley Strong — Mayoral candidate Jay Lundgren

As reported by Dan Ferguson in the May 5, 2026 Langley Advance Times article, this “kicks off the contest between Langley Strong and Progress for Langley.”

CACs are not unique to Langley, however Langley Township’s specific CAC policy was struck down by the court. That matters because the Township had been relying on this funding tool for major projects, and if that revenue disappears, taxpayers may be left to make up the difference.”

The Township of Langley has abandoned its appeal to a court case it lost last summer over CAC developet payments.

This is important because CACs are the only method (other than property tax) to pay for 3 large projects started this term: 5 Rinks Expansion at LEC, Smith Athletic Park and the Brookswood Firehall.
