Today is International Womens Day. We’ve come a long way with much work left to achieve true equality. Keep up the good fight.

The Township is on a significant growth trajectory, and I believe we can continue building upon our momentum by fostering a culture of innovation and embracing change while at the same time voicing our opposition and concern about such things as our lack of public safety services and transportation.

I will ensure the township council works to improve public transit beyond just the Skytrain as a priority. We also need to work on enhancing public ground transportation with an emphasis on accessibility and change. Some candidates for Council advocate “walkable” communities, but that requires goods and services to be within “walking” distance and Skytrain with enhanced ground transportation to move people and from work. Most people are unaware of the level of taxation levied upon those who live, work and play within the “Metro Vancouver Regional District.” Translink reaps the benefit of a fuel tax on every drop of gas sold in the Metro Vancouver Regional District, plus they impose a tax on all pay parking tax of at least 24%. An example, you rent a parking space for $100.00 per month plus GST = $105.00 plus 24% on the $105.00 = $25.02 = Total Rent $130.03. All of the Metro Vancouver Regional District has been paying this tax for years. So if you don’t pay for parking, let's not forget the 11.1% tax on fuel for your vehicle, which goes directly to Translink. What does Langley get in return for these taxes?

I have been in Langley for 27+ years. That’s how long I’ve waited for SkyTrain and for the feeder routes to where SkyTrain might be available in the future.

That’s a long wait. No Sky Train - No Feeder Routes.

We do have the Carvolth Exchange, and the Surrey Parking Lot at the end of the line is more like a shopping district for Catalytic Converters.

The people of Langley pay a lot of money to fund a service that they don’t have.

This is Just Not Right.

I promise to be the voice to bring this forward.

I just post this to the Township Of Langley Informed Election Forum, and I wanted to share it here as well:

Last night at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre the candidates for Township Mayor and Council participated in the final debate. During that debate, I used my 30 Second Rebuttal to raise the potential of the Alder Inn site being used to develop housing for women and youth at risk, similar to that of the “50 Women of Options” of whom I am one.

The site is owned by the Township of Langley and could be developed in a public private non-profit partnership to build a multi-story building with an Urgent Care Clinic plus resources similar to that of the Foundry, which is a new service being offered in the City of Langley. Also, retail units all of whom would be supported by the rental income from the residential floors, and much of that would come from government subsidies.

Is this not an amazing idea for a site where women suffered for so many years?

Its Pay Back Time … Aldergrove can lead the way.

When Women and Youth are Healthy, so is the entire community.

Declarations are not enough. The Climate Emergency is well upon us in the Pacific Northwest. The Township's Climate Action Strategy is a start, but given the astounding increase in wildfires, including forest and brush fires, the two recent droughts, the heat dome and atmospheric river 2021, we need to catch up.

I was recently asked seven questions about the Climate Action plan in our Township. Read my blog article to see how I responded by following the link in my profile.

The Township of Langley must encourage, if not require, that all new development include air conditioning, solar or other carbon neutral energy sources and adequate infrastructure to support the surrounding community. This will positively impact the environment and the health of the people in our community.

The Township of Langley is responsible for ensuring that environmental factors do not compromise the health and well-being of its residents. As development continues in our community, we must ensure it is done responsibly.

I will disagree with a candidate with respect to an issue or a promise made but never is a personal attack on the candidate or their family going to fly. I denounce the communications to Melissa Wilson and the hateful comments. This conduct rises to the level of criminal code hate speech and threatening.
