Please watch this video especially parents. It is your responsibility to know the rules and then make sure that your children know them also. I have had parents say that is how my kids get to school, well consider that childhood obesity is increasing and get a pedal bike for your kids. Make sure they know the rules there also.

The start of the national field lacrosse championships for U-17 and U-19 at our own Yorkson Park. All this weekend and it is organized by Langley Thunder Minor Lacrosse. Come out and watch some exciting field lacrosse. Lots of people from across Canada coming up to me after I did the land acknowledgement commenting on what an incredible facility. Great start Thunder.

Since my comment was deleted from the opposition’s public page, here’s what I’ve been talking about:

The Township of Langley Fire Department has had a Critical Incident Stress Management program in place for the last 2.5 years. It’s unfortunate that this has been misrepresented when it can be easily confirmed by either asking the Fire Department or IAFF 4550.

Having been trained as a Peer Diffuser with the Surrey Fire Services and a member of the BCPFFA Mental Health and Wellness Committee, I know firsthand the importance of a CISM program and how much it supports our first responders.

It is irresponsible of politicians to set “new” policy without consulting with those who would be impacted directly by it. I checked with both the leadership at fire and police and they were never part of any discussion for this “new” policy.

Our first responders deserve more than just being a political talking point or backdrop. They deserve to be at the table when decisions affecting their health and well being are being made.

Let me set the record straight on Progress for Langley’s support for our union brothers and sisters.

We have signed 4 contracts in less than 4 years, 2 with our IAFF local 4550 firefighters and 2 with CUPE local 403 civic employees.

IAFF 4550 was without a contract for almost 3 years in 2022. We quickly signed a 2 year deal that played some catch up and set the stage for the next contract through the end of 2026. These agreements ensured our firefighters received competitive wages and positioned the Township as a leader in prioritizing mental health supports, including our peer support program that has been working well for over 2 1/2 years.

CUPE 403 was without a contract for 2.5 years and the new agreements once again focused on competitive wages and benefits that help the Township recruit and retain skilled employees.

We are proud to invest in our firefighters and civilian staff who protect our Township and deliver the services residents rely on every day.

Well yesterday brought back some memories. I dealt with some grass fires and they are hard, dirty work. This got knocked down but it shows how we are not exempt from possible interface fires. There are buildings just past this location, please be careful.
