πŸ’₯Big win in Appeals CourtπŸ’₯
Regarding RCMP illegal exclusion Zones. And a Class action lawsuit.

Unanimous ruling by the three appeal judges says the original judge erred by refusing to admit affidavits that had been sworn.

Justice Geoffrey Gomery, who wrote the appeal ruling, said the lower court judge was mistaken to decide that Charter issues related to the exclusion zone policy lacked "commonality."

He said a class proceeding was the preferable procedure compared with the alternatives of individual lawsuits or complaints to the RCMP's Civilian Review and Complaints Commission.

Basically Pacheedaht, Ditidaht First Nations people and everyone that was denied access because of illegal RCMP exclusion zones will be eligible for a settlement.

Special thanks to Arvin Singh Dang and Kristy Morgan for making this class action lawsuit possible πŸ‘

Call Out :: Court Support Walbran Land Defenders

We stand for the trees β€” the ancient ones.

It is our responsibility, as stewards of the land, to protect what
cannot protect itself. This is a sacred responsibility.

Come to the courthouse to show your support for the 10 Walbran land defenders who stood in front of industry to stop the saws and protect the forests.

These defenders put their bodies between industry and ancient ecosystems
in an act of care, courage, and protection for the living world. Their
actions were taken in defense of old-growth forests, watersheds,
biodiversity, and future generations.

Their courage deserves to be witnessed.
Our forests deserve to be defended.

Let the courts see that protecting ancient forests is an act of care β€”
not a crime.

Court Support Gathering
πŸ“ Victoria Courthouse β€” 850 Burdett Ave, Victoria, BC
πŸ“… Monday, May 25
πŸ•˜ 9:00–10:00 AM β€” Gather outside the courthouse
πŸ•™ 10:00 AM onward β€” Pack Courtroom

At the previous court appearance, supporters filled the courthouse asthe judge delivered decisions regarding the Walbran land defenders. Ofthe 13 originally charged, three had their charges dropped. Theremaining 10 were charged with criminal contempt.

They were told that if they plead guilty, they could receive sentences ranging from a $2,250 fine to 10 days in jail. If they choose to proceed to trial, potential sentences could increase to as much as 21 days in jail β€” penalties even harsher than those handed down during the Fairy Creek resistance.

These defenders stood in protection of ancient forests while governments and corporations continue to permit irreversible logging of old-growth ecosystems.

This next court date matters. Public presence matters. Court support reminds the defenders they are not standing alone, and it shows the courts that the community is watching.

Bring your presence.
Bring your voice.
Bring your solidarity.

Please share widely.
