Effective at 12 p.m. PDT on Thursday, May 7, Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 open fires are prohibited across the Coastal Fire Centre. The exception is the Haida Gwaii Forest District, where Category 1 campfires are permitted.

These measures are being taken to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires associated with open burning activities.

This prohibition will remain in place until October 31, 2026, or until it is rescinded.

Always check with your local government before burning, as they may have their own prohibitions in place.

Today, on International Firefighters Day, Ladysmith Fire Rescue proudly recognizes the volunteer/paid-on-call firefighters who serve our community.

Your dedication, training, teamwork, and willingness to answer the call — day or night — make Ladysmith safer and stronger.

To our LFR members: thank you for the heart you bring to this work and the pride you bring to our community.

Happy International Firefighters’ Day.

Your responded to a fire in the bush up at the end of Malone Road today. We’d like to thank the many residents and local neighbours that called to let us know about the fire, which allowed for a fast response and control of the spread.

We’d also like to thank our colleagues at BC Wildfire Service for their support.

We would ask that when people see smoke or something of concern like this situation to please dial 911 as our fire hall is not manned and precious moments are lost if you call there and leave a message.

Thank you for working together to keep our community safe!

While many of us were cheering for Team Canada this weekend some of your were deep into a "Realities of Search" training program at CFB Esquimalt.

They didn't manage to save but did a great job through the program. Props to Chief Geiger, Capt. King and Firefighter Howard for all of your dedication and hard work.

Every Sunday your come in to the hall and do equipment checks to ensure we can be ready when you need us.

You may have also seen some fire trucks in from our neighbors. Your are learning and hosting other departments to fine tune our skills in Emergency scene management. Give them a wave if you see them around town!
