Last night, Mayor and Council took a moment to recognize Councillor Duck Paterson as he attended his final in-person Council meeting as a sitting member of Council.

Councillor Paterson has served the Town of Ladysmith for more than 38โ€‹ years, making him the longest-serving elected official in the Townโ€™s history. His decades of service represent an incredible commitment to Ladysmith and the people who call our community home.

Over the years, Duck has been a familiar and dedicated presence around the Council table, bringing his experience, perspective and deep connection to the community to his work as a Councillor.

The Town of Ladysmith is incredibly grateful to Duck for his more than three decades of service, dedication and contributions to our community. We wish him all the best as he closes this chapter of his time on Council.

Thank you, Duck, for 38+ years of service to Ladysmith! ๐Ÿ’™

Whether youโ€™re in the kitchen or at the grill, a few simple precautions can help prevent a fire.

Ladysmith Fire/Rescue recommends:

๐Ÿ‘€ ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ฒ ๐ง๐ž๐š๐ซ๐›๐ฒ โ€” never leave cooking unattended.

๐Ÿงผ ๐Š๐ž๐ž๐ฉ ๐ข๐ญ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ง โ€” grease and food buildup can ignite.

๐Ÿงฏ ๐๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ โ€” keep a fire extinguisher close by and make sure your smoke alarms are working.

๐Ÿ‘• ๐–๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐ž๐š๐ซ โ€” keep loose clothing away from flames and heat.

๐Ÿ“ฑ ๐’๐ค๐ข๐ฉ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ โ€” keep your attention on whatโ€™s cooking.

๐Ÿพ ๐Š๐ž๐ž๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ญ๐ฌ ๐š๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ โ€” give them some space from the kitchen and BBQ.

๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐ˆ๐Ÿ ๐š ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ โ€” turn off the heat if itโ€™s safe to do so. For a stovetop fire, carefully slide a lid over the flames. For an oven fire, keep the door closed and turn off the oven.

If a fire becomes unmanageable, get out and call 911.

A little attention can help keep your next meal from becoming a fire call. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’
