More changes coming to registry services. As of October 26, we can no longer accept paper copies of authorization for vehicle services.
Reminder—-be kind. Registry agents do not make the rules we are bound by contract to follow and enforce the rules. Contact your MLA with complaints.

Starting Oct. 26, we’re going paperless!

When Albertans need to use the Vehicle Services form to register a vehicle, the form can be filled out online instead of using paper forms. Albertans who need someone else to complete a vehicle service on their behalf will use a secure online form through their verified Alberta.ca account. This often happens when Albertans buy a vehicle from a dealership, for example.

The service is not going away - the process is changing to help make it more secure and reduce potential for fraud.

The Alberta Government has made an important change…we can now accept Expired (up to one year) Canadian passports to prove your legal entitlement when applying for or renewing your driver’s licence.
Save yourself time by reviewing the requirements for the Alberta one card.

Please don’t forget, our agents did not make these rules, but we are required to follow them…be kind!

Reminder....All Alberta Registry offices will be unable to process drivers licence and identification services June 29 and 30th. A complete outage of the Alberta Motor Vehicle system will take place June 30th at 3pm, in preparation for the outage, our office will be closed at 2pm June 30th. We will be closed July 1 st for Canada Day. We will resume regular hours July 2, 2026

Alberta driver’s licence and identification (ID) cards will feature an enhanced design, additional information and security features.

Changes are coming...

Changes to Alberta driver’s licences and identification cards will provide stronger protection against identity fraud and counterfeiting, as well as a more convenient way to access services.

The new design will display a Canadian citizenship marker when applicable, as well as your personal health number for eligible Albertans.

Applications and renewals cannot be done online, and original legal entitlement documents and your paper health card or mobile health care card must be brought with you to a registry.

Examples of documents include:
• Canadian Birth Certificate
• Canadian Passport
• Permanent Resident Card
• Secure Certificate of Indian Status
• Canadian Citizenship Certificate
• NEXUS Cards and RAST/EXPRES Cards indicating Canadian citizenship

You do not need to be a Canadian citizen to obtain a driver’s licence or ID card.
