This week Beaver Lake firefighters as well as firefighters from Whitefish Lake First Nation and The Treaty 6 EM Coordinator participated in a NFPA 1140 course.
We are always looking for more courses to run along side our brothers and sisters from other nation in the region. These courses help build capacity and knowledge on the nations and strengthen the relationships with our neighbors.

We need a minimum of 15 students to run the course.

Beaver Lake is proud to have been a part of this amazing announcement. We are also very fortunate to have one of the first departments with one of these Search and Rescue teams in Treaty 6. And with this new funding we will continue to grow our team and help other nations grow theirs. First Nations will no longer feel alone in their searches, we will be there to help each other every step of the way.

Since September, Directors of Emergency Management and Fire Chiefs from First Nations from Treaty 6 Treaty 7 and Treaty 8 have been working with AEMA for All Hazard Incident Management Team training. Today we completed this training and we now have First Nation Incident Management Teams for our Nation’s. These teams will deploy to Nations to help during disasters that overwhelmed their resources. This is a first ever in Alberta. As the Fire Chief of Beaver Lake Cree Nation, I am very proud to be apart of this team.

Our hearts are with Hinton Fire Rescue and the family of Firefighter Jeff Bleach. He was an excellent firefighter and an even better father, husband and friend.
Jeff was also a long time member of Lac La Biche County Fire Rescue and responded to many call to Beaver Lake Cree Nation.
We pray for his wife Erin and their 2 young children as they come to terms with this tragic loss.

This morning was a big day for our fire department and for Beaver Lake Cree Nation. We took delivery of a Type 2 Structural Protection Unit. This unit has the capacity to protect up to 80 homes with wildfire sprinkler systems during a forest fire threatening the nation. Beaver Lake is the first, First Nation in Alberta to have one of these units and we hope that this starts a trend and we see a unit on every nation in Alberta and across Canada.

We would like to thank Indigenous Services Canada and EM Suppliers for working with us on this project. This trailer will not only be used to protect home on Beaver Lake Cree Nation but also be deployed to First Nations as well as municipalities across Alberta. We look forward to helping all communities in their time of need.
