No baby should start life homeless.
But right now in Waterloo Region, some do.

Women who are pregnant or parenting newborns are experiencing homelessness. Their babies are falling through the cracks of broader data frameworks that drive funding, support and upstream solutions to the homelessness crisis.

At Marillac Place, we are working to change that.

We provide transitional housing and support to help mothers and babies move from crisis to stability. But demand continues to grow, and too many are still turned away.

Today, we are launching a campaign to raise critical funds to support this work.

Your donation can help a mother who arrives with nothing, leave with something she did not expect: hope.

The earliest years of life shape everything that comes next.

From pregnancy through age four, a baby’s brain is developing at an incredible pace. During this time, safety and stability are critical.

When that stability is disrupted by homelessness or housing instability, the risks are significant, developmental delays, emotional regulation challenges, behavioural difficulties, and long-term impacts on learning and health.

By the time a child enters school, it is often too late to prevent these effects.

Prevention works. But timing matters.

Invest in early intervention. Donate today: marillacplace.ca/donate/

On Towel Day (May 25), we celebrate something simple yet essential- a towel.

At Marillac Place, that idea resonates deeply. When women arrive, our Welcome Baskets provide the basics needed to start again with dignity- items like towels, toiletries, and everyday essentials. As residents move forward into independent living, our departure bins help them take those first steps into a new home with confidence.

These aren’t just items- they’re care, stability, and support at moments of real transition.

Because at Marillac Place, the right support at the right time can change everything. 💛

This is what safety looks like.

A secure place to sleep. Support when it’s needed. A space where a mother and her baby can begin again.

Marillac Place provides transitional housing and support for pregnant women and mothers with babies, helping to ensure children can begin life in safety and stability.

This is where change begins.

Unlearning a common myth ⟶ homelessness isn’t always visible. 💛

Many people experiencing homelessness aren’t on the street — they may be staying temporarily with others, moving between places, or living in unstable housing. This is often called hidden homelessness, and it can impact families and children in ways we don’t always see.

At Marillac Place, we support mothers and children through these invisible moments — helping create stability, safety, and a place to call home.

Can you imaging leaving the hospital with your new born baby and having nowhere safe to go?

When she arrived at Marillac Place, she carried everything she owned- and held her baby close.

Trust didn’t come easily.

Until one day, she asked a staff member to hold her baby.

A small moment that meant everything.

Today, she is building a stable future- and her baby is growing up in safety.

From simple ingredients to something special 🫐🧁💙

Thanks to generous food bank donations, we were able to turn everyday staples into fresh, homemade blueberry muffins for our residents. What started as ingredients became something nourishing, comforting, and shared together.

Moments like these in the kitchen are about more than food- they create space for learning, connection, and building confidence through everyday skills 🌱✨
We’re so grateful for the support that makes this possible, helping us turn ingredients into care and community 💙
