Healing of The Generations invites you to join us for our 6th year Annual Canoe day!

Our Canoe day is about community connecting and building a positive relationship with those who work within the Justice System. As this event is about connections and building positive relationships with one another, we encourage (but NOT mandatory) each trip/each canoe to have one community member and one justice worker.

This is a free event for ages 8 and up! Canoes, Life Jackets and Lunch will be provided!

There will be 2 different length options: 30 minutes and 3 hours.
Please note: we asked that if you are participating in the 3 Hour canoe trip, you arrive at Kiwanis for 8:30AM SHARP to launch by 9am! 30 minutes (starts at 8:30am as well) trips will run continuously, all day up until 2PM and can be taken more than once.

FACS Facts!
This June, as we recognize both Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month, we are taking a closer look at how identities intersect within our system.

Many children and youth hold multiple identities, including disability, racial identity, and 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, which shape how they experience risk, support, and connection to services.

Why does this matter?
Because understanding identity helps us respond more effectively. It allows us to recognize when services are not accessible, when supports are not meeting needs, and when children and youth may be at greater risk of disconnection from family, culture, and community.

The data also highlights that some of the most common concerns for these youth relate to caregiver capacity and separation, reinforcing that stability and belonging are critical.

At the same time, we know that our system and community do not yet have all the resources needed to fully support 2SLGBTQIA+ children and youth, particularly those under 18. Addressing these gaps requires strong community partnerships and a collective effort to build more inclusive supports.

This includes creating opportunities for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth to connect with others who share their identities—whether through gender and sexual diversity, culture, race, or lived experience.

Our responsibility is clear: to create environments where children and youth feel safe sharing who they are, and to work alongside families, communities, and partners to provide support that reflects their full identities.

Better data. Stronger partnerships. More responsive care.
That is how we improve outcomes for children and youth in our community.

As we recognize Pride Month 2026, Waterloo Region’s theme ‘The Light is Coming’ reminds us of the strength, resilience, and hope within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. It calls on all of us to commit to creating inclusive spaces where everyone can be seen, valued, and empowered. The message highlights that “light is unlimited and we can always make more,” reinforcing empowerment, pride, and visibility.
