I want to thank Nic Willemsma for raising a point that made me realize some residents may be unclear about the source of some of my messaging.
Wearing both the Mayor’s hat and a candidate’s hat during an election can create some grey areas, and I want to make sure there is no confusion.
I want to assure residents that I have never sacrificed my responsibilities as Mayor for my campaign, and I take that responsibility very seriously.
When I filed my nomination papers, I confirmed that my Mayor’s page could continue to be used for both Mayoral communications and campaign messaging, consistent with the Municipal Act and applicable Town policies.
I have also intentionally kept my personal account separate, as it sometimes overlaps with my business activities, and I have always worked hard to maintain that separation.
Moving forward, to make things even clearer, I will add a MAYOR’S MESSAGE heading to my usual Council and municipal updates.
I have always tried to be open, honest and transparent about my role and my intentions. If taking an extra step helps ensure residents know when I am speaking as Mayor versus as a candidate, I am more than happy to do that.
Thanks for raising the question, and I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable long weekend!
