LAST WEEK IN REVIEW

Had a busy week last week without posting much so here’s a recap

MONDAY
-met with the new ownership of 1 Main St. (Town Square Apartments). Theyve already starting doing some painting to clean up the building. Lots of good conversations on investment into the building and how important the estetics of this building are to our downtown.
-multiple meetings with some local business owners discussing items like downtown development, BIA, town support for business and more.

TUESDAY
-lots of good customer service conversations on our current system and timelines as well as finding ways to turn that ‘good’ into ‘great’
-attended 2nd Cottam Scouting year end gathering at Gosfield Communications Community Centre

WEDNESDAY
-Union Water board of directors meeting. Update on current reservoir expansion as well as receiving 100% on our annual Provincial inspection. Great job!
-County Council. Some good conversations on the Homelessness Hub. See video here:

THURSDAY
-attended the Leamington Chamber breakfast with Minister Jones and MPP Anthony Leardi, PC Essex. Some great conversations after on how we can get some provincial tax dollars reinvested back into our community.
-TWEPI board of directors meeting and AGM luncheon afterwards.
-couple more meetings with different residents later afternoon.

FRIDAY
-met with a couple local businesses on some development plans they’d like to bring to Town of Kingsville
-WINDSOR-ESSEX COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS Civic luncheon. Did you know that the President of WECAR is a Kingsville resident? Well done Alyssa Ismail Real Estate! Was a very informative session!

SATURDAY
-Cottam Block Party. What a great night, so well attended! THANK YOU!

Have a great week!

From my family to yours, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to our Town of Kingsville Dads and the Single Moms who’ve had to be both.

ATTN: COTTAM SOCCER PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, AUNTS/UNCLES/COUSINS, FRIENDS & FANS OF OUR ATHLETES ✨⚽️ (tag them so they see this post!)

225+ SUPERSTAR soccer players will take to the field this SATURDAY JUNE 20 to play in the ✨most✨ prestigious tournament happening this weekend (you heard me, FIFA)

They have played hard all season, enduring a two week break for field growth, one crazy pop up hail storm, hot days, cold days, a softball team and some fierce competition! Our littlest players scored their first goals, made new friends & maybe picked some dandelions too. Our oldest players are playing with confidence and we are bummed that some of them will be moving on after this year. Everyone in between has put out a valiant effort, grown a ton & had a lot of fun!

Please plan to come watch their games this Saturday! Check in with your players- first games are at 8 or 9 and our championship games are at 12 and 1- they would love to have you there, cheering them on!

Lunch will be served by rotaryclubofcottam (all players get lunch on us! otherwise it is available for purchase by 10:30am), Cottam Candy will have snacks & lemonades, and Brookston Oaks Taproom & Mercantile is open for post game celebrations!

📸 Captured by Danni will be on site giving out photo orders - if your child is in the team photo but didn’t order one, stop by for a complimentary copy of the team photo!
🎨 Paint Me Crazy By Daisy will be on site offering face painting for $5/face and she can do some soccer themed designs too!

Hard to believe the end of the season is here but we are so excited to see everyone SATURDAY!

𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (from Steve Higgins): What happened to the money that was set aside to purchase the school properties? Where is it, what will it be used for, and when was that decided?

𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 (from Ryan McLeod, Director of Finance and Corporate Services): The money set aside for the purchase of the school properties is currently held in the "Property Acquisition and Development Reserve". The 2026 Budget included an $800,000 contribution to this reserve, bringing the total reserve balance to $4,461,622. This reserve would have been used to purchase the School Properties, but it was really intended to address a variety of facility challenges that the Town is currently facing (ex. OPP Station, Town Hall, Public Works Yard, etc). Through the strategic planning and budgeting process, the next Council will have the opportunity to determine how to best allocate these funds.

I always enjoy attending the 2nd Cottam Scouting annual event!
Tonight we saw the scouts in action, recognized our future leaders and ate a bunch of pizza and fruit!

So much energy and enthusiasm, and that’s just the Scouters!

THANK YOU to this foundational group that does so much for the youth in Cottam,

THANK YOU!

106 Wigle marked their one-year anniversary by giving back to the community. The truffle fries were delicious and raised $660.00 for the Kingsville Community Food Bank. Thank you for demonstrating how a community is defined by more than just proximity, but by a sense of belonging and collective relationships. 106 Wigle Kingsville Community Food Bank
