With King Township’s 2026 Municipal and School Board Election happening on Monday, Oct. 26, it’s never too early to ensure you’re ready to vote ahead of election day. Get on the list at registertovoteon.ca. 
 
Residents who have recently turned 18, moved or changed their name might need to update their information to ensure they are on the list. If you are not on the list, you may not receive your Voter Information Letter.

🧑‍🚒 King Township is recognizing 27 new recruits  2026-1 to King Fire and Emergency Services, who officially joined the ranks during a graduation ceremony held on June 22 at Fire Station 36 in Schomberg. 
 
The recruits began their journey in January 2026, completing a six-month training program that prepared them for frontline emergency response. They earned nationally recognized certifications, including NFPA 1001 Firefighter Levels I and II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations. Their training also included emergency medical response, live fire scenarios and hands-on exercises to prepare them for real-world situations.  
 
🚒 King Fire and Emergency Services serves a community of approximately 29,800 residents across three stations, with a team that includes both full-time staff and more than 150 paid-on-call firefighters who respond to calls 24/7 365 days of the year. 
 
Just last year, the crew responded to 1,716 calls—from fires and medical emergencies to alarms and rescues—supported by more than 70,000 volunteer hours and extensive public education.
 
As they step into their new roles, these recruits will respond to a wide range of emergencies—from structure and wildland fires to motor vehicle collisions, medical calls and public hazards—while also supporting fire prevention education and community outreach initiatives.  
 
Our firefighters show up when people need help the most. Their commitment to protecting others, no matter the risk, speaks to extraordinary character, and many families and loved ones who provide support behind the scenes to make this possible.

King Township has been recognized at the provincial level for leadership in municipal artificial intelligence (AI).

👏 Congratulations to Marco Cheng‑Perri, Manager of Digital Transformation, Data and Corporate Performance, on receiving the 2026 Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) Ontario Special Recognition Award.

🏆 Presented at the MISA Ontario Annual Conference and Trade Show, the award honours outstanding contributions to the municipal technology community through innovation, leadership and collaboration.

Marco was recognized for advancing municipal AI and chairing MISA Ontario’s AI Special Interest Group, helping drive knowledge sharing and accelerate AI adoption across municipalities province-wide.

At King Township, he has led the development of an enterprise AI program, launched the Kingsley AI virtual assistant on king.ca, implemented a cloud-based data and AI platform to reduce silos, and integrated tools like Microsoft Copilot to automate reporting and free up staff time for higher value, customer-centric work—enhancing organizational efficiency and support smarter, data‑driven service delivery for citizens.

Celebrate the butterflies 🦋 and the bees 🐝 with during National Pollinator Week (June 22 to 28). As a Bee City and participant in the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, King is buzzing with ways to support these small but mighty species.

Create a bee-autiful🐝 pollinator garden at home with a free pack of native wildflower seeds 🌼 provided by York Region. Seed packs are available at all King Township Public Library branches during operating hours, while supplies last.

🚧 is improving 18th Sideroad from June to August.

Work includes:

▪️Removing and replacing asphalt road surface on 18th Sideroad from Dufferin Street to Bathurst Street

▪️Repairing and replacing culverts that allow water to flow freely under the road

▪️Cleaning roadside ditches

Traffic impacts: The road will remain open, with temporary lane closures Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Access for local homes and businesses will be maintained.
