Town of Kentville is developing a Recreation Plan — as our community grows and changes, it’s important that our programs, parks, and facilities grow with it. Your input will help guide recreation in Kentville for the next 10–15 years!

The next Council Advisory Committee meeting will take place on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 5:00pm at Town Hall (354 Main Street) at the Upper Recreation Centre.

Renovations have begun at Town Hall. During this time, while accessibility upgrades are underway, all Council and Committee meetings will be temporarily relocated. While accessibility remains a priority, it cannot be guaranteed that all alternative meeting locations will be accessible. Individuals wishing to attend a meeting who have accessibility concerns are encouraged to contact Town Hall in advance to confirm accessibility at the meeting location.

Due to limited access to the Council Chambers sound and recording system, public meetings will not be live-streamed during renovations. However, meeting minutes will continue to be posted on the website as usual.

Town of Kentville extends warm wishes to all those celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, beginning at sundown today.

Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection, renewal, and hope for the year ahead. Traditions include hearing the shofar (ram's horn), gathering with family and friends, and enjoying symbolic foods such as apples dipped in honey for a sweet new year.

Those wishing to celebrate locally can attend Rosh Hashanah services at Shaar Shalom Congregation (The Shaar), 1981 Oxford Street, Halifax, on September 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Information on High Holiday services and tickets is available at: https://theshaar.ca/high-holidays/

We wish everyone celebrating a happy, healthy, and peaceful new year.

Today, Town of Kentville joins communities around the world in recognizing World Su***de Prevention Day. This year's theme, "Changing the Narrative", encourages us to move beyond silence and stigma and toward greater understanding, compassion, and support.

Su***de prevention starts with connection. A caring conversation, a listening ear, or simply checking in with someone can make a meaningful difference. As a community, we all have a role to play in fostering belonging, supporting mental well-being, and creating safe spaces where people feel comfortable reaching out for help.
* Check in with friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues.
* Ask, "How are you really doing?" and listen without judgment.
* Learn about mental health resources available in our community.
* Help reduce stigma by talking openly and compassionately about mental health.

This is your friendly reminder that registration for our fall programs opens tomorrow, September 9th, at 9:00 am! You can register online on our website at www.kentville.ca/programs or in person at the Lower Rec Centre (348 Main Street, the left door of the recreation centre if you are looking at the building from Main Street).

As we will be helping those who come in person, our phone line and email will be answered as early as possible, but not monitored during busy rushes!

If you are registering online, be sure to know your Amilia account login information in advance.

For both online and in person registration, credit card payments will be processed the quickest.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow and are excited for another season ahead!

Labour Day in Canada has its roots in the labour movement of the 1870s and became an official statutory holiday in 1894. Since then, it has been a time to honour the achievements of workers and celebrate the importance of fair and safe workplaces.
