Kenton Water System Update

We are pleased to report that the Kenton Water Treatment Plant is back in operation with the assistance of a temporary replacement generator.

Water service has been restored within Kenton, and pressure in the rural pipeline system continues to improve. Rural customers may still experience reduced pressure while the system fully recharges.

⚠️ BOIL WATER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT⚠️

All water used for drinking, food preparation, beverages, ice making, and brushing teeth must be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use.

We understand there have been questions regarding the outage. The standby generator operated throughout the Manitoba Hydro outage until approximately 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning, when an electrical component malfunctioned. Municipal staff and electricians were unable to repair the issue on site. The outage was not caused by a lack of fuel.

Because the treatment plant requires a specialized 100 kW, 600-volt generator, a replacement unit was sourced from Oxbow and connected this afternoon, allowing the plant to resume operations. Kohler technicians are scheduled to inspect the generator tomorrow.

We would like to thank our municipal staff, electricians, and all those who assisted throughout the day in troubleshooting the issue, sourcing equipment, restoring service, and keeping residents informed during this interruption.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Kenton Storm Cleanup Efforts

Last night's storm brought significant damage to parts of our municipality, particularly in the community of Kenton. Strong winds, heavy rain, and large hail have left many residents dealing with fallen trees, debris, and property damage.

As our community begins the cleanup process, we know that any offers of help and assistance would be greatly welcomed and appreciated by many residents, especially seniors and those facing the task of clearing trees and debris from their properties.

Municipal staff are on site today and will continue working throughout the week to clear debris from streets and assist with cleanup efforts where possible.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Woodworth Fire Department for their efforts last night, including helping clear trees from Hydro lines and roadways.

We also want to recognize our municipal staff who responded on a Sunday, assisting with public communications, utility operations, and cleanup efforts. From answering calls and sharing updates to clearing debris and restoring essential services, their dedication and willingness to step up during challenging circumstances is greatly appreciated.

Thank you as well to everyone who has already stepped up to help friends, family, neighbours, and community members.

The strength of municipality has always been found in neighbours helping neighbours.

Please continue to use caution around damaged trees, debris, and any downed power lines.

- R.M. of Wallace-Woodworth Council and Administration

BOIL WATER ADVISORY – KENTON PUBLIC WATER SYSTEM

A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for the Kenton Public Water System following the loss of water pressure caused by the June 7, 2026 power outage.

Until further notice, all water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before being used for:

• Drinking and ice making
• Preparing beverages, including infant formula
• Preparing food, including washing fruits and vegetables
• Brushing teeth

It is not necessary to boil water for other household purposes such as laundry, dishwashing, bathing, or showering. However, young children should be sponge bathed if possible.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Municipality's website to review the Boil Water Advisory Fact Sheet and additional guidance regarding safe water use during the advisory.

The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until the water supplied by the system no longer presents a risk to public health. Residents will be notified when the advisory has been rescinded.

Please share this information with others who use the Kenton Public Water System.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

🚨 Water Service Interruption – Kenton & Area 🚨

Residents of Kenton and surrounding areas are advised that water service is currently unavailable.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., the generator at the Kenton Water Treatment Plant failed during the ongoing Manitoba Hydro power outage. As a result, the plant is currently without power and unable to operate.

Manitoba Hydro crews are actively working to restore power in the area. Municipal staff are also working to restore water service as quickly as possible.

At this time, there is no estimated restoration time.

Residents are encouraged to conserve any remaining water and make alternate arrangements for drinking water and other essential household needs.

Additional information, including any water quality requirements following restoration, will be provided as updates become available. Please note that once water service is restored, a Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until further notice.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to restore service as quickly as possible.

Kenton Storm Cleanup Update

The strong winds that moved through Kenton on Saturday caused significant tree damage throughout the community.

Weather permitting, Municipal Public Works staff will begin storm cleanup efforts on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. However, forecasts continue to call for the potential of additional severe weather, and cleanup activities may be delayed or adjusted if conditions become unsafe for staff. Any schedule changes will be communicated as needed.

Staff will focus on removing debris from municipal ditches, public areas, and locations where trees were cut and cleared by the Woodworth Fire Department.

The Kenton Waste Disposal Grounds will be open at 10:00 a.m. for residents wishing to dispose of storm debris themselves.

Branch Pickup Assistance

Residents who have fallen branches on their property are encouraged to begin piling them neatly on their front lawn near the roadway.

To assist our staff, please:

✅ Place branches near the roadway (not on the road surface)
✅ Stack branches in a neat pile for easy collection
✅ Keep piles clear of mailboxes, hydrants, utility poles, and parked vehicles
✅ Do not place debris in ditches or on the roadway

Residential branch pickup assistance will be scheduled following Sunday's storm cleanup efforts.

We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we work together to clean up following this storm event.
