Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Art and Emotions: Story Stones night. Our learning commons was absolutely buzzing with creativity, smiles, and meaningful moments.

The heart of the evening was the beautiful connection between parents and students. Sitting side-by-side, families shared tons of laughs and worked together to design personal symbols for the emotions we experience every day.

Everyone left with a box full of custom-made stones and a wonderful new toolkit to help kids express their feelings at home.

A special shoutout to Amanda Pierce for doing a fantastic job facilitating the evening so smoothly. She brought such a warm, gentle, and supportive energy to the room and created a safe, calm space that allowed everyone to truly connect with themselves and each other.

✨ This wonderful family event was proudly funded by the UCDSB Parent Reaching Out (PRO) Grant. ✨

Thank you again to our amazing South Branch and UCDSB community for making the night such a joyful success. We love learning, growing, and creating together.

Our junior students had the privilege of participating in the collective creation of an 8’ X 16’ mural.

The “Create To Get Closer" mural program aims to highlight the importance of official language minority communities and encourage active engagement among younger generations. We were partnered with Rivere Rideau as part of the project.

Huge thanks to artists JP and Madam Rachelle along with our student ambassadors: Evelyn, Olivia, Adelaide, Stella, Kira and Kes. Thanks also to Mme Peters for stepping in to help coordinate.South Branch School CouncilUpper Canada District School Board (UCDSB)Municipality of North Grenville École élémentaire et secondaire publique Rivière Rideau

Have you ever had this conversation?

You: “How was your day?”
Them: [Shrug] 🤷🏼‍♀️
You: “What did you do?”
Them: “Stuff.”

Now, picture this instead:

You: “Let’s pick a stone to start our day's story.”
Child: [Picks the 🌧️] “Recess got rained out...”
Child: [Grabs the 📕 & 🐞 ] “...so we stayed inside, read books, and found a cool beetle.”
Child: [Points to the ☀️ Sunshine] “Then the sun came out. So we got to play outside later and we found muddy puddles. ”

Story stones offer a low-pressure way for children to open up. Building this connection now lays the groundwork for the intermediate and high school years, when you want them to share the hilarious details of their day.
Such as….

“You won't believe how Suzanne accidentally traded a grilled cheese sandwich for a broken ukulele.”

“Tyler managed to get his shoe stuck on the gym ceiling during a dodgeball game again.”

“There was an all-out lunchroom standoff over whether a hot dog is a sandwich, leading to a full-blown bun boycott.”

✨ Join us at our Story Stone Event! ✨

Want to bring these magical conversation starters into your own home? Come create your very own set with us, led by Amanda Pierce!

This special workshop is proudly funded by UCDSB ProGrant, and welcome to all UCDSB families.
