10,000 trees and growing with the City of Kelowna's NeighbourWoods program.

With 806 trees purchased during this year's fall NeighbourWoods sale, the program has now surpassed 10,000 trees purchased since 2010. What started as a community initiative to increase tree canopy and enhance neighbourhoods has grown into a lasting investment in Kelowna's environmental and community well-being.

Over the past 16 years, residents have helped expand the city's urban forest one tree at a time. These trees provide shade, improve air quality, support biodiversity and contribute to a more resilient community for future generations.

This milestone reflects the collective impact of thousands of residents choosing to invest in a greener Kelowna. Thank you to everyone who has participated in the NeighbourWoods program and helped make this achievement possible.

10,000 trees and growing!

What started in 2010 as a way to help residents grow Kelowna's urban forest has now reached an exciting milestone. With 806 trees purchased during this year's fall sale, Kelowna residents have purchased more than 10,000 trees through the NeighbourWoods program.

Every tree planted helps make our community greener, healthier and more resilient. From providing shade and cooling our neighbourhoods to improving air quality and supporting local wildlife, these trees will benefit Kelowna for generations to come. A huge thank you to everyone who has participated in the program over the years. This milestone belongs to our community. 💚

Tree pick-up is tomorrow! Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Mission Recreation Park Arboretum (4105 Gordon Drive)

Missed the pre-sale? A limited number of trees will be available for cash purchase at the pick-up event while supplies last.

Another amazing summer at Stuart Park is in the books! Over the past few months, we watched the park come alive with music, movement, laughter and connection through Roller Nights, Dancing in the Park and Sunset Yoga. These free community events brought people of all ages together and created countless summer memories. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make these events such a success.

💧 Okanagan Lake is at historically low levels. Why does this matter?

Besides being the primary source of drinking water for Kelowna and other communities, Okanagan Lake helps support our economy, tourism, recreation, environment, transportation infrastructure and the Okanagan way of life we all value.

When lake levels drop to historic lows, the impacts can be significant. Lower water levels can cause the lake to warm more quickly, increasing the risk of bacteria growth and algae blooms. This can affect water quality and make drinking water more difficult and costly to treat.

Low lake levels can also impact fish spawning and habitat, putting future generations of fish at risk and affecting the biodiversity that helps keep our lake healthy. If levels continue to decline, other concerns can emerge, including infrastructure impacts and access to the lake itself.

These are not just environmental concerns. They affect our water supply, our economy and our quality of life.

That's why it's so important that we all do our part to conserve water and follow the current Stage 2 water restrictions. Every drop saved today helps protect our community for tomorrow. 💧
