SUCCESS STORY 🎉

Beth’s journey is a testament to perseverance in the face of significant barriers. While raising four children as a single parent, she worked part-time from home, but those opportunities eventually faded. As a person with a disability, an ADHD diagnosis, and a survivor of domestic and ongoing financial abuse, Beth faced challenges that made steady employment feel out of reach. Her career had been placed on hold for years, yet she remained determined to find work that would allow her to support her family and regain stability.

Arriving at WorkBC Centre Kelowna, Beth was support through the BC Employment Assistance for Persons with Disabilities program. She received tailored case management and skills training, along with financial support that made it possible for her to take driving lessons, an essential step toward earning her Class 4 license. With focused guidance, the required approvals were completed quickly, and Beth successfully passed her test, opening the door to a new and flexible career as a taxi driver in a very short timeframe.

Today, success means flexibility, independence, and confidence. Beth can work part-time to nearly full-time hours, adjusting her schedule around her children’s school hours and activities. She’s building financial stability while maximizing time with her kids, proof that with the right support and determination, change is possible.

“I have an “unrestricted” Class 4 license, which opens other doors for me. I enjoy it very much!”

SUCCESS STORY 🎉

After immigrating and building a new life in Canada, Haley faced significant challenges when her business closed. Having been self‑employed, she was not eligible for Employment Insurance, leaving her without income for several months. As she worked to find her place in the Canadian workforce, she often felt the weight of balancing childcare, improving her English, and learning new cultural norms around interviewing. Even so, Haley stayed resilient and focused on rebuilding her career and creating a secure future for her family.

Everything shifted once she connected with the WorkBC Centre Burnaby-Brentwood and began case management support. With guidance from her case manager, Haley attended three key workshops: transferable skills, interview skills, and resume writing. These sessions helped her recognize the value of her international human resources experience, boost her confidence, strengthen her English literacy, and gain the practical tools she needed to shine in interviews.

With additional support through childcare resources and job start financial assistance, Haley felt fully prepared to take her next steps. Her hard work paid off, and she secured a full-time job, confidently stepping into a new chapter of her career.

“My confidence really increased, I felt supported and was able to see how my international work experience was of value in Canada.”
