Have you ever wondered when you call 9-1-1 who is answering the call? Have you ever wondered why the Police Dispatcher asks you so many questions? This is your chance to meet with one of our BC RCMP 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers and find out the important role dispatchers play in public safety.

You’ll meet with the Recruiting team from the Southeast District 9-1-1 Police Dispatch Centre, and ask them questions about this vital role.

“We are excited to share why we love being a 9-1-1 Police Dispatcher and how rewarding it is to assist in keeping our communities safe.”

The Kelowna RCMP is looking forward to the Touchdown Kelowna events and the BC Lions games at the Apple Bowl. Fans can expect to see an increased police presence throughout the City of Kelowna and around the Apple Bowl keeping the roar to just inside the stadium. Be patient getting to and from the game, plan for a safe walk home, with no parking and an expected 15,000 people at the game leave your vehicles at home.

Let’s go Lions!

The RCMP continues to see violent online groups, like 764, targeting youth. While we are working with partners to address this—parents and caregivers play an important role too.

Stay involved, talk openly with your kids about what they’re seeing online, and speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

Today we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and learn more about the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples. In Kelowna we acknowledge that we are able to live, work and play on the traditional, unceded territory of three Interior Salish nations; the Syilx, Secwépemc, and Nlaka'pamux peoples.

We love this beautiful game just as much as you, but the Kelowna RCMP want to remind you to plan for a safe ride home if you are celebrating your favourite teams.

If you’re planning to attend or host a watch party, be responsible and don’t drive impaired. Please celebrate safely, we don’t want to see anyone receive a red card.

The Kelowna RCMP has seen an uptick in fraud related files around big events coming to our community.

Fraudsters are trying to take advantage of “selling” an advertising package or fake permits to events like the Memorial Cup, Kelowna Pride Week and others. Police remind the public and particularly businesses to do your due diligence to make sure the advertiser is a legitimate person. There is no harm in asking the person if you can call them back so you can verify who they are or call the organizing committee to confirm an unsuspecting email.

Police are also receiving reports of a fraudulent call from someone claiming they are from BC Lottery and stating that you have won a free truck but are required to pay for towing costs from the lower mainland. Talk to your family members to make sure they are aware of this a scam.

If you’ve been the victim of a fraud, contact the Kelowna RCMP as soon as possible at 250-762-3300 or connect with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and make a report.

Graduates, congratulations! You have worked hard and you deserve to celebrate your achievements! We at the RCMP are hopeful that you will look back on these next few weeks with the fondest of memories for years to come.

We would like to take this opportunity to not only congratulate you, but also give you a reminder. Although we are sure you would love to invite us as your party guests, (trust us some of us are pretty great dancers), we don’t need an invitation to come. Celebrate responsibly!
