Very important and useful. We heavily encourage all homeowners to do this. We can always assist if you are unable to.

Embers can easily ignite flammable debris under your deck. To increase the fire resilience of your property, remove all fuel from this area and consider sheathing the base of your deck or balcony with fire-resistant materials. This will reduce the chance of sparks and embers igniting your home.

Due to wetter, cooler temperatures and decreased fire danger rating, the Category 2 open burning prohibition will be rescinded throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, effective at 12p.m., noon, Pacific Time on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023.

Note that Category 3 open fires remain prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre until October 28 or the public is otherwise notified.

The Emergency Wildfire Preparedness Checklist gives residents the information they need to prepare for wildfire and protect their home. If you are prepared to evacuate and have assessed your surroundings, check your home for other improvements you can make.

If you have time, check the vents around your home to confirm that they have been screened and are in good repair. If they have not been screened, cover them with plywood or non-combustible tape before you leave. Be sure to remove these covers when you return home.
