💧 MONITOR TRAINING 💧
Even losing light quickly, it didn’t stop the members from Station 20 - Burnt River from getting some valuable training in. Thank you to the crew for allowing me to join you last night during your training session!
So… what exactly is a monitor?
A monitor — often referred to as a deck gun, roof turret, or water cannon — is a high-capacity, aimable nozzle designed to deliver massive amounts of water or foam onto a fire. These devices can be permanently mounted on an apparatus or portable, and are capable of flowing anywhere from 500 to 2,000+ gallons per minute while helping keep firefighters at a safer distance from intense fire conditions.
- Common Uses for Monitors -
🚒 Fast Attacks
Used during aggressive initial fire attacks on heavily involved structures or vehicles before interior crews make entry.
🏠 Protecting Exposures
Monitors can be placed into a wide fog pattern and left flowing to help protect nearby buildings, brush, or wildland areas from spreading fire conditions.
⚠️ Hazmat & Industrial Incidents
In industrial or hazardous materials incidents, monitors can apply large volumes of water or specialized foam from a safe distance, reducing firefighter exposure to dangerous conditions.
Training like this ensures crews stay prepared, adaptable, and ready for whatever call comes next. 👨🚒💧🔥
