🗑️🔥 RUBBISH FIRE 🗑️🔥

Yesterday (May 27, 2026), Station 3 - Bobcaygeon, Station 20 - Burnt River, and Station 22 - Fenelon Falls were dispatched to a reported shed fire.

Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy black smoke and visible flames. After further investigation, crews determined the fire involved plastics and rubber burning — not a structure fire as initially reported.

Firefighters quickly deployed foam agent to assist with suppression efforts and successfully brought the fire under control before it could spread to nearby exposures.

Great work by Stations 3, 20, and 22 for a quick knockdown and preventing further spread! 👏🚒🔥

💧 MONITOR TRAINING 💧

Even losing light quickly, it didn’t stop the members from Station 20 - Burnt River from getting some valuable training in. Thank you to the crew for allowing me to join you last night during your training session!

So… what exactly is a monitor?

A monitor — often referred to as a deck gun, roof turret, or water cannon — is a high-capacity, aimable nozzle designed to deliver massive amounts of water or foam onto a fire. These devices can be permanently mounted on an apparatus or portable, and are capable of flowing anywhere from 500 to 2,000+ gallons per minute while helping keep firefighters at a safer distance from intense fire conditions.

- Common Uses for Monitors -

🚒 Fast Attacks
Used during aggressive initial fire attacks on heavily involved structures or vehicles before interior crews make entry.

🏠 Protecting Exposures
Monitors can be placed into a wide fog pattern and left flowing to help protect nearby buildings, brush, or wildland areas from spreading fire conditions.

⚠️ Hazmat & Industrial Incidents
In industrial or hazardous materials incidents, monitors can apply large volumes of water or specialized foam from a safe distance, reducing firefighter exposure to dangerous conditions.

Training like this ensures crews stay prepared, adaptable, and ready for whatever call comes next. 👨‍🚒💧🔥

🚓 IMPAIRED ARREST - LINDSAY 🚓

One person has been charged after an off-duty officer reported a driving complaint.

On May 24, 2026, just before 9:00 p.m., an off-duty officer observed a vehicle drive over a curb while attempting to park at a business on Russell Street West. The officer had recent interactions with the driver, who had previously shown signs of alcohol consumption.

Responding officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was investigated and determined to have consumed alcohol. The driver failed an Approved Screening Device test and was placed under arrest for impaired operation. He was transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, where he provided breath samples that exceeded the legal limit.

A 57-year-old male was charged with Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He was later released with a future court date.

The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
