Secwepemc Child & Family Services

Secwepemc Child & Family Services SCFSA is a fully delegated Agency providing a range of services to Indigenous families and children Cstalen (Adams Lake Indian Band)
2.

The Secwepemc Child and Family Services Agency (SCFSA) was incorporated under the Societies Act on April 28, 1999. Formation started with Chiefs of the seven Bands of the Secwepemc Nation signing and agreeing on the formation of an Agency to meet the needs of child protection for their communities. The purpose of the Agency is to develop a full complement of child protection services on behalf of

the following Secwepemc Bands:

1. Pellt’iq’t (Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band)
3. Simpcw (North Thompson Indian Band)
4. Sk’atsin (Neskonlith Indian Band)
5. Skeetchestn Indian Band
6. St’uxwtéws (Bonaparte Indian Band)
7. Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (Kamloops Indian Band)
The agency works in collaboration with these seven bands with regards to child protection and the prevention of abuse and neglect of all Secwepemc children. The ultimate goal is to take over full responsibility of child protection for community members. At this date, Secwepemc Child and Family Services Agency works under what the Delegation Enabling Agreement, that transitions the authority of child protection through a matrix of roles and responsibilities until full delegation is reached. Collaborative work and funding from both the Ministry of Children and Family Development and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada have made the Secwepemc Child and Family a fully delegated organization. It is the desire of the communities we serve that Secwepemc Child and Family services be the primary agency for protection of all Secwepemc children.

Kukwstsétsemc! Such a pleasure to partner with you A Way Home Kamloops!

What a wonderful surprise this week! 💛

We’re grateful to the team at Secwepemc Child & Family Services for the thoughtful gifts, shared as a thank you for hosting the SCFS Youth Action Committee meetings at Katherine’s Place.

Katherine’s Place continues to be a welcoming and central space that makes it easier for youth to connect, engage, be heard, and we’re always happy to open our doors for work that truly matters.

We’re proud to partner with SCFS in supporting youth in our community and look forward to continuing this meaningful collaboration.

Kukwstsétsemc to you all!

We had a blast this past weekend hosting our Me7 Mestentsút-kt es Twítentem (We Will Do Our Best to Raise Our Children) Parenting Conference. We treated parents to wellness treatments, inspirational speakers, bingo, rock n roll trivia, and plenty of pampering.
The weekend was capped off by a unique gift to all attendees from our amazing Cultural Integration Team -- a combination rattle and drum. Created by Team Leader Lyle Thomas, the rattle/drum when gently shaken is meant to mimic the sound heard during an ultrasound.
After handing them out to everyone in attendance, we all stood to sing as one, backed by the gentle sounds of the drum/rattles.
Kukwstsétsemc to everyone who attended and kukwstsétsemc to the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Conference Centre for hosting our event!

Our SCFSA Winter Gathering Pow-Wow was another grand success this year as we once again gathered at the Sandman Centre on the last weekend of January. The numbers of dancers grew again this year -- to 286 -- and the number of drum groups swelled to 15.

There were a variety of crafts for sale from a wide array of vendors, and we were once again blessed with the presence of Dr. Cindy Blackstock, our tireless advocate for Indigenous children and families. We were also pleased to have Nancy Bepple, Kamloops City Councillor from the City of Kamloops - Municipal Government as well as Kukpi Rosanne Casimir from Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc in attendance and on the mic to share words of encouragement and praise.

Kukwstsétsemc to all who attended and participated!
