As reported by various media, last night around 6pm Kamloops Firefighters responded to an incident involving a vehicle into the North Thompson River.

Prior to emergency crews arriving on scene, courageous bystanders entered the water in an attempt to help those involved - an act of incredible bravery that speaks to the compassion and selflessness within our community.

Firefighters then worked in dangerous and rapidly evolving conditions to bring three people to shore through coordinated rescue efforts, teamwork and determination.

A search remains underway for one occupant believed to still be in the river.

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this incident, and we are grateful for the efforts of all emergency personnel and community members involved.

For years, members of Kamloops Fire Rescue have quietly rolled up their sleeves and donated blood - this time joined by a few first-time donors!

In our line of work, we see firsthand how critical those donations are.

Proud of our crew for continuing to lead by example, and to the new donors: welcome to something that truly makes a difference.

If you’ve ever thought about donating, this is your sign. 🩸

We are deeply saddened to share that retired Fire Chief, Neill Moroz, has passed away after a courageous battle with occupational cancer.

Chief Moroz dedicated 28 years of service to , retiring in 2013 at the rank of Fire Chief. His commitment, leadership, and service to our Fire Department and the community will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with the Moroz family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Chief.

On Wednesday evening, shortly after 11pm, Engine 3 (Valleyview) was first in to another structure fire at a commercial building in the 400 block of Downtown Kamlooops. This fire required a response from every staffed unit in the City (second alarm). Firefighters were on scene well into Thursday morning. Thanks in large part to smart operational decisions by Incident Command, neighboring occupancies were saved with limited to no damage reported in those occupancies. Despite the complicated nature of this fire, the crews did a phenomenal job getting this fire struck with no injuries reported.

This marks several significant fires in Station 3's area in the last number of days, continuing to push our resources and limiting response capabilities to the Eastern corridor of the City. A staffed fire station in Dallas/Barnhartvale is required not only for the protection of citizens/visitors and commercial/industrial properties in the eastern corridor of the City, but with no reliable mutual aid response options, is also absolutely critical for the safety of our Firefighters on scene at complex emergency incidents such as this one. We continue to appreciate the support from Mayor and Council, committing to convert this station to full-time staffing.

Did you know Station 3 in Valleyview is responsible for all fire/rescue response from Lafarge (including a large portion of East Shuswap Rd) to Downtown, north to the Halston Bridge, and south to Juniper Ridge and Rose Hill?

In the last 24 hours, responded to two significant fires in Engine 3's (Valleyview) response area. Last night, Engine 3 responded to East Shuswap Rd for a structure fire (as reported by many media outlets) as well as a Fire in Dallas this morning. This further exemplifies the importance of moving ahead with the staffing plans of the Dallas/Barnhartvale fire station.
