Indigenous cultures across Canada are diverse, vibrant, and deeply rooted in living tradition. First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities each have distinct traditions, languages, and histories that continue to shape and enrich this country. Here in Kamloops, we are fortunate to be surrounded by the living culture of the Secwépemc Nation.

Mark your calendars as the Kamloopa Powwow is coming June 26 to 28 and is open to the public. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience First Nations culture firsthand, enjoy traditional food, and support Indigenous businesses and artisans.

June is National Indigenous History Month. The City of Kamloops recognizes and celebrates the history, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples, and honours the ongoing presence and leadership of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc on whose traditional and unceded land the City is located.

Throughout this week, leading up to National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we will be sharing local events, resources, and ways to learn and engage right here in Kamloops.
