Sarah's is, Young Mungo, by Douglas Stuart!

Set in 1990s Glasgow, Young Mungo is a powerful and deeply moving story of first love, violence, poverty, and hypermasculinity. Stuart doesn’t shy away from difficult, sometimes brutal themes, but at its core, this novel is about people trying to carve out safety, identity, and tenderness within the rigid expectations of family, gender, and working-class life.

It’s a heartbreaking read, but also quietly hopeful in a way that really lingers.

DeafBlind Ontario Services has transformed part of our Lakeshore and Stroud Branches with a colourful yarn bombing installation to help raise awareness about deafblindness during National DeafBlind Awareness Month.

Each knit or crochet square represents the coming together of people connected to the deafblind community. A special thank you to the Simcoe Region team at DeafBlind Ontario Services and to all the community members who created yarn squares for this meaningful project.

This global yarn bombing initiative is helping build awareness about deafblindness around the world, one stitch at a time.
Be sure to stop by our Lakeshore or Stroud Branches to see it for yourself!

This month we recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, while continuing to reflect on Truth & Reconciliation.

As part of our commitment, we offer free library cards to all Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit people living in Ontario, providing access to physical collections, digital resources, and welcoming community spaces.

We also share The Remembering Garden, inspired by Indigenous Knowledge Systems passed down through generations. We recognize that Indigenous Nations are diverse, with distinct languages, teachings, and traditions, and encourage learning from local Knowledge Keepers.

We are also honoured to take part in The Canadian Library Project, a book-wrapping initiative remembering Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S).

Everyone deserves access to stories, information, and opportunities to learn. Visit us or explore our website to discover tools and resources designed to support every reader.
