Twenty-five years ago today, communities across Newfoundland and Labrador welcomed thousands of stranded travellers with open arms.

People opened schools, churches, community centres, and homes. They shared meals, offered comfort, and turned strangers into friends.

In a moment of uncertainty, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians showed the world the very best of who we are: generous, compassionate, and always ready to help our neighbours.

No trade dispute, political disagreement, or pressure from beyond our borders will ever change that.

If it happened tomorrow, we’d do it all again.

Happy first day of school to all students, teachers, school staff, and families across Newfoundland and Labrador!

I hope everyone has a great first day back and a school year filled with learning and plenty of good memories.

Please take extra care on the roads and watch out for one another as we get back into the school routine.

Please note the constituency office will be closed today, Monday, September 7th, in observance of the Labour Day holiday. The office will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8th.

Last night I had an amazing time at the Catherine Snow Story Dinner and Lecture at the Cupids Legacy Centre.

I was honoured to be included among the guest speakers at the event. I was able to both bring greetings on behalf of the District of Harbour Main, and also to announce an investment of $8000 from our government to support this event and the work done to tell the remarkable story of Catherine Snow. Thank you to Minister Goosney and his team at the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, and Recreation for supporting our heritage through this investment.

Thank you to my fellow guests speakers Mayor Rod Delaney of Cupids, Mayor Bev Wells of South River, Shannon Duff who represented MP Paul Connors, and Mary Snow, the Great-Great-Great Granddaughter of John and Catherine Snow.

Thank you to the attendees who made the night such a huge success.

Last but not least, thank you also to the Cupids Legacy Centre board members, staff, and volunteers who organized this fantastic event, and who have done so much to preserve our history.

Great news for the District of Harbour Main!

The provincial government announced today over $630,000 in funding for fire departments in the Harbour Main District. Our volunteer firefighters are the backbone of our communities, and equipping them with the necessary tools is critical. Bay De Grave Volunteer Fire Department received funding for a new two-door fire truck. This will be a game-changer for their ability to protect the region. The funding for essential firefighting equipment allocated to the Conception Harbour and Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview departments will also support their important work. On behalf of all residents of the district of Harbour Main, I extend my sincere appreciation to Minister Forsey and his team for this vital investment in building safer communities in the District of Harbour Main.

I had a lovely afternoon at the Makinsons Annual Games Day, which took place at the home of Ruth and Billy Wells. There was lunch, co****le, axe throwing, good friends, and a lot of laughs. I was also lucky enough to get a tour of the Wells property, seeing furniture that Mr. Wells made and a very successful garden. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Wells for offering your property for such a great day, thank you to the Makinsons 50+ Club for inviting me to bring greetings on behalf of the District of Harbour Main, and thank you to the volunteers who made the event such a success!
