Flags have been lowered in the Town of Hinton in honour of the four Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives and the many injured in a tragic fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

“On behalf of Council and the citizens of Hinton, I want to express our sorrow for the loss and injury at the base, but also our pride and thanks for everyone in the armed forces who commit their lives and accept the dangers involved in the protection of our nation,” said Brian LaBerge, Mayor.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives. Our thoughts are also with those who were injured and all members of the Canadian Armed Forces affected by this tragedy.

Alberta Wildfire, Yellowhead County Fire Department and Hinton Fire Rescue are planning to conduct a joint hazard reduction burn on Friday Oct 16 at the RC Flyer fields, located northeast of Hinton. It’s expected to occur around noon if conditions allow. You may see or smell smoke in the area.

The burn would reduce the overall wildfire risk in the area by removing dead and dry grass and other flammable vegetation. Once the burn is complete, firefighters will patrol the area, extinguishing any remaining hot spots and return when required to ensure it's fully extinguished.

Only approved materials may be burned, and smoke must not create a nuisance. Please follow burning rules carefully. 🔥Fir...

The Town of Hinton has received reports of door-to-door salespeople.

When it comes to door-to-door sales, know that you have rights. Protect yourself by being aware and trusting your instincts.

🏠Don’t open your door if you don't feel comfortable.

📃Ask for a Town of Hinton Business License from anyone approaching your home.

🗣You do not have to provide any personal information to salespeople or contractors that come to your door. This includes showing them bills, giving them water samples for testing, answering questions about security features in your home, etc.

🖊Don't be pressured to sign anything at your door.

⛳Protect yourself by doing research before buying anything at your door. Being pressured for a "one time deal" or being discouraged from researching your options should raise a red flag.

Report all suspicious activity to the police. Dial 911 in an emergency or contact the Hinton detachment at 780-865-2455 for a non-emergency.
