Daydreams ELCC Ltd. Welcome to exceptional early learning in High River, offering care from infancy to kindergarten ready

As the longest-running early learning program in High River and the community’s only not-for-profit centre, Daydreams Early Learning Centres hold a deep and enduring relationship with the families we serve. Rooted in the values of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and guided by FLIGHT: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework, our work honours children as capable, curious citizens whose ideas help s

hape the life of our learning spaces. Our two purposefully designed early learning environments, open Monday through Friday, welcome children and families into places of warmth, collaboration, and wonder. We offer Full-Time care along with limited Casual Care, supporting families with flexible pathways that respect the rhythms of work, home, and community life. As participants in Canada-Alberta Affordability Grant, all families benefit from the new affordability funding, ensuring that high-quality early learning remains accessible across all ages. At Daydreams, our not-for-profit heart and decades of community presence ground everything we do. We walk alongside families, co-creating joyful, meaningful experiences where children’s voices lead the way and their learning flourishes.

Children are naturally curious about real tools and how things work. When we provide opportunities to safely explore tools such as child-sized hammers, peelers, screwdrivers, hand drills, or woodworking materials, children learn responsibility, focus, and confidence through hands-on experiences.

Rather than avoiding all risk, we support children in learning how to manage risk safely with close supervision, clear boundaries, and developmentally appropriate tools.

Using real tools helps children develop:

Fine motor strength and coordination
Problem-solving and critical thinking
Focus and persistence
Safety awareness and responsibility
Confidence and independence

When children are trusted with meaningful experiences, they often rise to the occasion with incredible care and concentration. Risky play is not about danger — it is about learning skills to navigate the world safely and confidently.

Rough & Tumble Play

Rough and tumble play often looks loud, energetic, and chaotic — but when supported safely, it is an important part of healthy child development. Play wrestling, rolling, gentle tackling, superhero games, and playful chasing allow children to test strength, practice communication, and build social-emotional skills.

Through rough and tumble play, children learn:

Consent and boundaries
Self-control and emotional regulation
Cooperation and communication
Problem-solving during social play
Body awareness and strength

Educators closely supervise this type of play to ensure all children are engaged willingly, having fun, and staying safe. When children are given opportunities for active physical play, they learn how to navigate excitement, negotiate with peers, and build trusting relationships.

Big body play can look messy, but it is often filled with meaningful learning, laughter, and connection.

Spinning & Dizzy Play

Have you ever noticed children spinning in circles just for the joy of it? Spinning, twirling, rolling, and dizzy play help children better understand how their bodies move and respond to the world around them.

This type of sensory-rich play supports the vestibular system — the system responsible for balance, coordination, and spatial orientation. Whether an infant is rocking gently, a toddler is spinning with scarves, or preschoolers are twirling with friends, children are developing body awareness in meaningful ways.

Spinning play can support:

Balance and coordination
Sensory processing
Self-regulation
Spatial awareness
Confidence in movement

Children naturally stop when their bodies have had enough, helping them learn to recognize and respond to their own physical cues.

Running & Chasing Games

Running, chasing, and playful movement games are a joyful part of childhood — and they support so much learning beyond physical activity. From toddlers playing “catch me” to preschoolers inventing imaginative chase games, children are building social connections while learning how to move safely through space with others.

These playful experiences help children develop:

Body control and coordination
Listening and response skills
Social cooperation and turn-taking
Awareness of boundaries and surroundings
Emotional regulation and excitement management

Through active play, children practice reading social cues, negotiating play ideas, and learning when to speed up, slow down, stop, and reconnect. What may look like “just running” is actually rich learning in motion.

A big THANK YOU to one of our amazing educator for bringing in her chicken to share with the children!

The children were filled with excitement and curiosity as they had the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and learn more about farm animals through a real-life hands-on experience. From noticing the feathers and listening to the clucks to talking about how chickens are cared for, this special visit sparked so much meaningful learning and wonder.

Experiences like these help children build connections to the natural world while encouraging empathy, curiosity, and respectful interactions with animals. Thank you for creating such a memorable experience for our little learners!

At our program, climbing is more than just fun — it is an important part of early childhood development. Whether infants are pulling to stand, toddlers are climbing small structures, or preschoolers are balancing and exploring higher spaces, children are learning about their bodies, limits, confidence, and problem-solving skills.

Through climbing adventures, children develop:

Balance and coordination
Spatial awareness
Risk assessment skills
Confidence and perseverance
Core and large muscle strength

As educators, we create safe environments where children can take manageable risks, test their abilities, and build resilience through movement and exploration. Sometimes the greatest learning happens when children are trusted to try.

A very special THANK YOU to the wonderful family who brought in baby chicks for our children to visit and explore!

The excitement, curiosity, and joy throughout the classrooms were absolutely heartwarming. The children loved observing the chicks up close, noticing their soft feathers, listening to their tiny peeps, and learning about how animals grow and are cared for.

These meaningful experiences help foster empathy, wonder, gentle caregiving, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Thank you for sharing such a memorable and special experience with our little learners — it truly made their day!
