The Herbert Fire Department (HFD) responded to a smoke investigation at 16:39 hours, located east of Rush Lake. A team of three personnel arrived at the scene to discover a fire burning atop a flooded hay field. The photos show the fire's progression through the dry, yellow grass situated above the water-covered terrain. Additionally, a full rainbow was observed. An investigation determined the fire's origin to be a smoldering bale.

At 18:23, HFD was dispatched to a structure fire north of Main Centre. Upon arrival, firefighters found a shed, truck, bus, and shrubbery fully engulfed in flames. Despite the extensive damage, the fire was successfully contained and extinguished. We extend our gratitude to the neighbouring community, Main Centre Colony for their assistance with water supply, the RCMP for their support, and Hutch EMS for their presence and our dispatchers who had a busy day. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. We also appreciate the diligent efforts of the 12 responding members who work tirelessly to protect our community. Fire Chiefs wife says to thank all the crew for their fast response time. From the call till sirens rolling... 3 minutes 23 seconds.

“Prepared Today. Protected Tomorrow.”
Emergency Preparedness Week 2026 in Canada runs May 4–10, 2026—an annual campaign led by Public Safety Canada to help people get ready for emergencies like wildfires, storms, power outages, and more.

Water (at least 4L per person/day)
Non-perishable food
Flashlight & batteries

Phone charger/power bank
Warm clothing & blankets
Copies of ID and cash
