BC Wildfire Service has announced that effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Category 2 open burning will be prohibited across the entire Northwest Fire Centre.

In addition to Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, the following activities and use of equipment, materials and substances will also be prohibited:
- Air curtain burners
- Carbonizers
- Binary exploding targets
- Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
- Burn barrels or burn cages of any size and description
- Controlled air incinerators

Northern Health and First Nations Health Authority are issuing a Drug Advisory for the Northern Health Region. Recent drug samples of white Hydromorphine pills, sold as “Dilaudid” have tested positive for the new synthetic opioid Cychlorphine which can be 10x stronger than Fentanyl. It may require additional doses of naloxone.

Cychlorphine may be present in other unregulated drugs in the Northern region.

Please note: There are no test strips that work to detect Cychlorphine. Fentanyl test strips will not detect Cychlorphine in the hydromorphone pills described in the recent NH/FNHA drug advisory. If you're interested in running as a candidate in the upcoming election, that's great news! You'll need to fill out a nomination package, which you can find at our website at the link below, or you can stop by our office (300-4545 Lazelle Ave) during weekdays from 8:30am - 4:30pm to pick up a printed package.

🗣️ IMPORTANT: Completed nomination packages can only be accepted during the Nomination Period (Tues, Sept 1, 2026, 9am to Fri, Sept 11, 2026, 4pm) and you must make an appointment with the Chief Election Officer during that time so she can review and sign your documents.
