Season planting starts this Saturday! ๐Ÿซ›๐Ÿง…๐Ÿง„

It's that time of year again! Join us June 13th from 9am to 11am to help plant the garden beds for the 2026 season. This year we are focusing on long term storage vegetables. Please come prepared with gloves, and any other garden tools you may have. (Shovel, rake, wheelbarrow, etc.) Come prepared to take on some weeds! We will have snacks and refreshments!

Please reach out if you would like to plant your own garden bed!

P.S. with all the blooming cherries, plums, and apples it's a great time to visit the community garden. I have seen some hummingbirds come and enjoy the blossoms at the garden.

Q: When the Hartland Covered Bridge was first constructed, people had to pay a toll ๐Ÿ’ฐ to walk, drive or take livestock across it. In what year were tolls removed?
A: 1906

Until May 1, 1906, the Hartland Bridge operated as a toll bridge. James Pearson is recorded as the first toll keeper. Fees were 2 cents per pedestrian, 5 cents for a single team of horses and 10 cents for a double team. For livestock, it was ยฝยข per head for sheep and 3ยข for cattle. The tolls were unpopular with the locals, and they petitioned the provincial government to remove the tolls and take over ownership of the bridge, which eventually happened in 1906.
