Position Overview: Understanding of tasks in order to operate and maintain the natural gas distribution system in accordance with the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops Operations and Maintenance Practices. Responsible for all aspects of construction. Responsible for maintenance and assigned tasks of all equipment appropriate to the organization. Responsible for all employees (in consultation with the Board). Responsible to see that the service department is maintained and trained. Responsible for maintaining the accounting records and administration of the Association.
Requirements:
-Grade 12 (minimum), preferably accounting experience;
-Minimum 5 years experience in the natural gas distribution industry;
-Responsible to the Board of Directors and will adhere to instructions as passed by the Board at a duly constituted Board Meeting;
-Report to the Board of Directors at regularly scheduled meetings and in the interim will report to the Chairman or in his absence, the Vice-Chairman;
-Responsible to implement all policies of the Co-op;
-Knowledgeable about the operating, maintaining, installing and repair of natural gas distribution system;
-Knowledgeable of policies and procedures used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the utility operations system;
-Knowledgeable about the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops
Operations and Maintenance Practices;
-Proven success in management including:
-Preparation and updating of long terms plans for equipment/vehicle replacement, utility infrastructure replacement and upgrading;
-Day to day purchasing and hiring of necessary equipment to allow for proper operation of the system within budget guidelines;
-Maintain parts and inventory;
-Budget and operational projects;
-Review packing slips, invoices;
-Accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and month end balance;
-Provide leadership and guidance to develop staff professionally by ensuring staff are provided with training opportunities, courses and seminars necessary to maintain various certificates to insure compliance with applicable rules and regulations;
-Excellent interpersonal skills, to be able to understand and communicate verbally and in writing;
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board Members, employees, and the public;
-Demonstrated ability to supervise a diversity of positions, both for in house staff and contractors;
-Self-motivated and willing to participate in professional development opportunities, Managers’ Meetings, Zone Meetings, and the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops functions sponsored by the Federation;
-Chair monthly safety meeting to address safety issues and update safe work procedures and hazard assessments;
-Intermediate computer skills to work with Microsoft Office programs and software;
-Intermediate accounting skills to work with SAMCO Power Accounting;
-Effective record keeping and ability to prepare clear, concise reports;
-Mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting abilities;
-An aptitude for planning and organizing work in a timely and efficient manner;
-Minimum Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract;
-Mandatory drug testing will be conducted on all newly hired employees.
