Happy Thursday Palliser Region! With the current civil unrest going on around the world its important for us to keep the conversation going. This video shows how planning, policy and the built environment has and is promoting discrimination and racism within society today. Take a minute to educate yourself on systemic racism and how you can help. Inform, educate, and be an ally to those whose rights are being violated.

Examine the forgotten history of how our federal, state and local governments unconstitutionally segregated every major metropolitan area in America through law…

Happy Monday Palliser Region. With Alberta’s relaunch strategy announced we will begin to see businesses open up in three stages.

The strategy will include:

➡Early actions to allow some activities to begin such as some scheduled, non-urgent surgeries; health care services such as physiotherapists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists and more; vehicle access to parking lots and staging areas in parks and on public lands on May 1 and working to have them open by May 14; camping reservations for select campgrounds beginning May 14 to book site visits beginning June 1; and the reopening of golf courses as of May 2, with restrictions, including keeping clubhouses and pro shops closed (until stage one).

➡Stage 1 to include businesses and facilities resuming operations as early as May 14. This includes clothing, furniture and bookstores, vendors at farmer’s markets; some personal services, like hairstyling and barbering shops; museums and art galleries; restaurants, cafes, lounges and bars (with no bar service) to reopen for public seating at 50 per cent capacity; reopening daycares, with limits on occupancy; summer camps, with limited occupancy; and reopening additional outdoor recreation. Post-secondary institutions will continue to deliver courses, however how programs are delivered – whether online, in-person, or a blend – will depend on what restrictions remain in place at each relaunch phase.

➡Stage 2 to include potential opening of kindergarten to Grade 12 schools, with restrictions; additional scheduled surgeries; opening of libraries; resuming operations of additional businesses and services, with two metre physical distancing requirements and other public health guidelines in place (this includes personal services like artificial tanning, esthetics, cosmetic skin and body treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxing, facial treatments, massage and reflexology); permitting larger gatherings (number of people to be determined) in some situations; movie theatres and theatres, with restrictions.

➡Stage 3 to include fully reopening all businesses and services, with some restrictions; permitting larger gatherings (number of people to be determined) and arts and cultural festivals, concerts and major sporting events, with restrictions. Nightclubs, gyms, pools, recreation centres and arenas will reopen with enhanced protection controls in place. Industry conferences will resume, with restrictions. Physical distancing restrictions will be maintained.
There will be no restrictions on non-essential travel.
We will evaluate, monitor and adjust course as we consider relaxing public health measures. We may need to take a step back at times, but we will adjust and move forward together.

Happy Earth Day 2020! Lets comeback from this crisis thinking more critically and holistically in regards to our actions. We do in fact have the ability to make a difference and can create healthier, happier and more inclusive qualities of life from this experience.

On this day, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, I am reflecting on why in the face of the coronavirus crisis it has never been more important to ensure we "make climate action everyone’s business”. 2020 was supposed to be the “super year” for the planet in view of the series of scheduled int...
