Today is World Giraffe Day! 🦒

We're excited to be celebrating here at African Lion Safari, especially with the recent birth of our newest giraffe, Kiwavi. His arrival is a reminder of the important conservation work happening here and around the world to protect this incredible species.

As the world's tallest land mammal, giraffes play an important role in their ecosystems. However, giraffes are facing challenges in the wild, and conservation programs like ours play a role in supporting healthy populations and long-term species survival through education, research, and collaborative conservation efforts.

Did you know European White Storks migrate between Europe and Africa every year?

Using their broad wings to ride air thermals and conserve energy, they can travel thousands of kilometers on their incredible journey.

You can see amazing birds like our European White Stork take flight during our daily Birds of Prey Flying Demonstration!

That's not the only educational presentation you don't want to miss! Be sure to check out Parrot Paradise and Wild Wonders, where you'll discover fascinating facts about the animals in our care and the conservation efforts helping protect them.

If you’ve ever wondered what a Malayan tapir sounds like, here’s your chance to find out! 📢

The whistles, squeaks, and chirps you hear are all part of how tapirs communicate. While they’re generally quiet animals, they use a variety of vocalizations to express themselves and interact with their surroundings.

Our Malayan tapir is enjoying some time in her stream, a favourite way for tapirs to stay cool! They are excellent swimmers and often spend time in and around water.

Shy by nature, tapirs spend their day hiding in the interior areas of their forested habitat - which is why she may be difficult to spot while “On Safari!”

👀Keep your eyes peeled on the left-hand side before you enter Rocky Ridge Veldt (Section 5 of our drive through Game Reserves).

Meet Dolores, our prehensile-tailed porcupine!

Native to South America, Dolores spends most of her time in the trees, using her incredible tail like a fifth limb to climb, balance, and reach her favourite foods. As she forages, she also helps spread seeds and plant material throughout her habitat.

Did you know? Porcupines can't shoot their quills, and their quills aren't poisonous or venomous! Their quills are made from the same material as your fingernails and are only released when they come into contact with something.

Want to learn more about Dolores? Catch her in our Wild Wonders presentation during your next visit "On Safari!™"
