With the rise of hate and social conservatism, we want to share a clear message of support. There is NO PLACE for hate in the Hammer. Proud to hear of local students stepping up against hate in schools! A shame that they should have to in 2022!

The Liberals have been clear and strict on their policies and efforts against hate, from race and religion to sexuality and gender expression. We can and must do better, though with conservatives having voted against same-sex marriage and being endorsed by anti-abortion groups, the choice is clear. We can't go backwards! So
we choose forward. Cliche as it sounds.

Students at Westmount Secondary School in Hamilton walked out of class on Wednesday to protest what they say is a lack of action from school staff in addressing discrimination.

Went downtown this morning to support our friend & fellow young liberal Ekaterini Dimakis (Ekaterini.ca)! Was concerned and surprised that she was the only Hamilton Centre candidate walking the walk for youth mental health! After the horrible decline in mental health since the start of the pandemic, this should be a priority. It was great to speak with Ekaterini about her experience and her vision on taking action to promote mental health.

Also while downtown, heard from folks how her approach of actually being accessible and actively listening to residents was a welcome surprise for those used to the current MP & MPP there! Actions > Words after all. Ekaterini is going to shake things up!

Can't wait for her to fight in Queen's Park alongside our future Hamilton Mountain MPP Chantale Lachance. We're working to elect more teachers and youth because they know exactly how the Ford government has hurt young Canadians. Our future is at stake. It's time for change and it's time for youth in politics.

We know that Black, Indigenous and racialized individuals still face overincarceration and systemic racism in the criminal justice system. We know that people struggling with mental health and addictions issues have been criminalized instead of supported through treatment and other health and social services. The Government of Canada wants to change that. This week we introduced Bill C-5, which proposes amendments to the Criminal Code and to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to repeal mandatory minimum penalties for certain offences and get people the help they need while also ensuring our communities are safe. Hate has no place in our city or our country and we must work together to continue to confront racism and violence to create a more welcoming and inclusive community.
