Meet Your Neighbour: Gunther

“I retired in 2007 and a friend told me about Neighbour to Neighbour. I loved it immediately.”

Eighteen years later, Gunther is still here every Monday with his crew. Over the years, he has worked as a food bank receiver, helped with home deliveries and food drives, and become what many affectionately call the “Mr. Fix-It” around Neighbour to Neighbour.

“Over time, I have watched food insecurity get worse every single year. More people, more need, more families struggling in ways that are not always visible from the outside.”

“The staff and volunteers at Neighbour to Neighbour genuinely care. I see that every week, and I am proud to be part of it.”

Thank you, Gunther, for 18 years of showing what neighbours helping neighbours truly means. 🧡

Meet Your Neighbour: Mary

Mary lives on disability and old age security. After rent and bills, she has less than $100 left every two weeks.

Each month, two of our 450+ volunteers deliver groceries to her door through Neighbour to Neighbour’s home delivery program. For neighbours like Mary, that knock at the door and the few minutes of conversation that come with it can mean just as much as the food itself.

This summer, when the need is greatest, please consider making a gift to Neighbour to Neighbour.

Many thanks to Adam Hoult and the Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department!

Adam raised $2,050 for the Food Bank from the members of the Sechelt Fire Department, in honour of his younger brother Kyle Hoult.

When Kyle Hoult began his battle with leukemia at the age of 6, his Make a Wish Foundation request was 'for no children to be hungry'.

That sparked a mission for Kyle and his family to start contributing to food banks in Hamilton, where they lived.

When Kyle passed in 2001 at the age of 14, his family began the annual Kyle Hoult Food Drive in memory of Kyle and his generous spirit.

We are heartened to see Kyle’s legacy live on, and if you would like to honour Kyle's wish, contributions can be made to the Food Bank by visiting sccss.ca/donate ❤️

N2N Books, our Athens and Limeridge locations will be closed on Friday, May 15 at 12pm and all day on Monday, May 18 for Victoria Day.
