Shelter Nova Scotia

Shelter Nova Scotia Shelter Nova Scotia supports people: from an emergency bed to housing; from corrections to community; from crisis to stability.

We shelter people in times of need and are there through residential, trustee and outreach programs. Shelter Nova Scotia has seven facilities - six overnight or residential locations plus a community drop-in centre - in the Halifax area. We provide a bed for up to 106 people a night, 365 days a year, and support some 1,500 people in our community annually.

A new client living in a Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency (NSPHA) property entered the Community Trustee Program with significant rental arrears and was at immediate risk of eviction.

After receiving formal eviction documentation, the Community Trustee Program stepped in to advocate directly with NSPHA collections staff.

Through coordinated negotiation, a repayment agreement was reached, preventing eviction and allowing the client to remain safely housed while working through their arrears in a structured, manageable way.

This is the power of early intervention and relationship-based support.

The Community Trustee Program helps people navigate complex systems, advocate for themselves, manage financial challenges, and maintain stable housing.

By intervening before a housing crisis becomes homelessness, the program helps create pathways to stability, one person, one relationship, and one solution at a time.

At Heart & Home Realty, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home. 🏡❤️

When we founded Heart & Home, our vision was to build a business deeply rooted in community, care, and giving back. That’s why a portion of every single real estate transaction we complete goes directly to Shelter Nova Scotia.

Shelter Nova Scotia works tirelessly across Greater Halifax to provide housing, support, and hope to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.

When you choose to work with us—whether buying or selling—you’re not just making a move for your own family; you’re directly helping us support vital housing initiatives right here in our local community.

Thank you to all of our incredible clients who make this ongoing support possible! 💙
💬 Want to learn more about our community initiatives or Shelter Nova Scotia? Send us a message anytime—we’d love to share more about why this cause is so close to our hearts.

Since Joan's Table began in 2017, volunteers have now provided more than 20,000 individual servings to residents at Herring Cove Apartments alone.

Get involved by visiting joanstable.com

Since Joan's Table began in 2017, volunteers have now provided more than 20,000 individual servings to residents at Herring Cove Apartments alone. Every shared casserole, pot of soup, lasagna, rotisserie chicken and homemade dessert has become part of that extraordinary total.

The tenants at both Herring Cove Apartments and The Rebuilding have expressed how much they look forward to the meals that come from our Joan’s Table volunteers. Not only does food provide nourishment, but it provides moments for our tenants to connect with one another.

This summer, barbeque inspired meals have been popular with the tenants. If you would like to sign up to prepare a meal, visit joanstable.com.

Every meal makes a difference 🍽️💕
