From learning about career opportunities in the ICI (Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional) construction industry to seeing a major project take shape firsthand, it was a great opportunity to connect learning with the work happening right here in our community.🏗️

Our Industry Community Engagement Coordinator, Michelle Yorston, joined APTEC to share information about the opportunities available in the ICI construction industry and the many career pathways it offers.

The visit also included a tour of the HIEP (QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project) site, where we got to see the growth and progress happening firsthand. It’s exciting to see a project of this scale taking shape and to be able to share that experience with our community and industry connections.

A special thank you to PCL Construction for their continued support and for being a champion of opportunities like these site tours. 🤝

What a milestone. What a celebration. What an incredible moment for our industry, our community, and our government partners whose support helped make this vision possible. 🎉

The new Cape Breton Trades Exhibition Centre will be the second of its kind in the province, complementing the Trades Exhibition Hall in Halifax and helping youth and job seekers discover the skilled trades and the many rewarding career opportunities they offer. 🏗️

The facility will also include classroom space for apprenticeship training and an on-site testing centre, providing apprentices with the resources they need to complete their exams and continue advancing their careers.

A sincere thank you to Minister Nolan Young, Minister Fred Tilley, Minister Brian Comer, our MLAs, government officials, and all of our government partners. Your commitment helped make this important project possible, and we are grateful for your investment in our industry and our community. 🤝

To all of our industry partners, thank you for your leadership, collaboration, and continued commitment to the skilled trades.

To our community partners, thank you for standing with us and helping bring this vision to life. Your involvement will help create lasting opportunities for our community. ❤️

And thank you to everyone who joined us for the BBQ and celebration. Having so many partners and supporters, there made the occasion even more meaningful. 🎉

This announcement is an important part of the Construction Industry Supports Initiative, and we are incredibly grateful to our CIS Committee for being such dedicated and valued partners throughout this journey.

🎥 Hear It From the Campers: Skilled Trades Through Their Eyes

CTV Atlantic visited the NSAA Skilled Trades Summer Camp at NSCSC, giving campers the opportunity to share their experiences,, and what they’re discovering about the skilled trades.

Along with exploring the Trades Exhibition Hall, campers got the chance to take part in some hands-on, interactive, and pretty cool activities—learning by doing, trying new things, and getting a real feel for the many opportunities available in the skilled trades.

Our youth are the workforce of tomorrow, and we’re committed to creating opportunities for them to explore, learn, build confidence, and discover their potential.
