Team Family SOS had an amazing time participating in and volunteering at the 2026 Medavie Blue Nose Marathon!

We loved cheering on the Doctors Nova Scotia Youth Run and being part of such a fun community event. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we raised $1,321.32 to help support our essential programs.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, and cheered on Team Family SOS. Together, we are creating stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.

I just yelled at my kids.
Now what?

First, repair with yourself:
“I’m a good parent having a hard moment. I didn’t mess up my kids forever. I can repair this.”

Then, repair with your kids:
“I’m sorry. I’m sure that felt scary. I’m working on staying calm when I have big feelings. I love you.”

Good parents aren’t perfect. Good parents repair.

"Yelling is often a sign that we’re overwhelmed or struggling to meet our own needs. Repair teaches children that relationships can move through mistakes with accountability, honesty, and reconnection." - Dr. Becky

🐝 Happy World Bee Day – May 20! 🌼Our volunteers have been bee-sy getting the garden ready for a new season of growth. From preparing garden beds to cleaning up outdoor spaces, their hard work is helping us create a welcoming space where our community can learn, grow, and connect. 🌱 Bees play such an important role in our food systems and gardens, and today is a great reminder of how connected we all are to nature. Thank you to everyone helping us get ready for another beautiful gardening season! 💛

Welcome, Ellen! 🌱

Ellen has joined Family SOS as our Community Garden Coordinator and has already been hard at work getting the garden ready for the season.

Healthy Kidz stopped by to say hello, and it didn’t take long before they were asking questions, checking out the garden beds, and getting curious about what’s growing.

We’re excited to have Ellen with us and can’t wait for another season in the garden. 🌼💚

🛒 Help Us Stock the Family SOS Community Market

Every week, Family SOS runs a free Community Market where 130+ families can access groceries, fresh food, and hygiene essentials.

To keep the shelves stocked, we rely on community support — and right now, we could use your help.

Most-needed items include:

🥛 Milk, bread, rice, pasta, coffee, and tea
🧴 Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, soap, and body wash

There are a few ways to support:

🔹 Donate items
Drop off any of the items listed above. Even one bag of rice or one bottle of shampoo helps.

🔹 Sponsor a weekly staple
Help cover the cost of one item for a week, such as milk, bread, eggs, or another essential.

🔹 Organize a drive
Workplaces, schools, faith groups, sports teams, and community groups can collect food or hygiene items. We’re happy to help you get started.

Our Community Market runs every week, which means the need is ongoing — but so is the impact of your support. Whether you donate one item, sponsor a staple, or organize a drive, you are helping a neighbour in Halifax access the essentials they need.

📩 To donate, contact Kamila at [email protected] or call: 902 455 5515 ext.325
