Happy World Environment Day! 🌲

Today, we are highlighting some of the ways that Trees for Tots supports the our local environment:

🐟 Creek Restoration: Whole trees donated to Freshwater Conservation Canada from Trees for Tots have been used as a sediment trap to decrease the width of Marden Creek. This helps to improve water quality, improve fish passage, and decrease water temperature to a more optimal range for the native Brook Trout.

🚶‍➡️Walking Trails & Pathways: At The Arboretum and Ignatius Jesuit Centre, mulch from chipped Trees for Tots donated trees has been added to trails and pathways in their naturing forests. This helps to reduce the compaction on the roots of the trees and gives folks using the trails a more level footing.

🌧️Rain Gardens: The Arboretum used mulch to replace grass near parking lots with rain gardens, which helps retain moisture, prevent flooding, and filter our pollutants from going into our storm systems.

We are proud to continue to work with local partners to ensure that the trees donated each year are returned to the local environment through different naturalization projects. 🌲
