Guelph Food Bank

Guelph Food Bank Guelph Food Bank helps those in need of food support. People Helping People. For more information, contact the Guelph Food Bank at 519-767-1380.

Through the Guelph Food Bank’s Hamper, excess, and agency support programs alone we assisted over 21,600 individuals in the year 2013. Food Bank clients vary in age and ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: they are all faced with financial hardship. Due to illness, short-term crisis, adverse economic conditions, and the ever increasing cost of living, our clien

ts cannot afford to buy the needed groceries to adequately feed themselves and/or their families. Over 30 Local Agencies, Neighbouring Food Banks and Pantries were supported through various GFB Programs. 1,110,300 pounds of food was distributed in 2013. Our goal is not only to help meet the needs of our clients in the short term, but also to help clients become self-sufficient and gain and maintain self-worth / esteem to eventually stand on their own with little or no help from agencies and groups within this community.

With school starting this upcoming Tuesday, the need to provide nutritious foods for learning can’t be understated. National Food Bank Day paired with Hunger Action month in September is a sober reminder that food insecurity can affect anyone at any age. At Guelph Food Bank, 37% of our supported network are children.
Back to school should be an exciting time for them, they shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not they’ll have a lunch to bring to school.

Help us provide families with the nutrition they need to pack a healthy lunch for those young developing bodies and minds.
Consider a monthly donation of $25, $50 or $100 allowing us to continue providing nutritional value throughout the school year. Donation Link in Bio

Out shopping for school supplies and groceries today? Consider purchasing a little extra to donate at participating grocery stores in our signature Guelph Food Bank blue bins or one provided by the store.

With corn season in full swing, there are plenty of ways to prepare corn on the cob. Husk it and Boil it, barbecue it, roast it… but did you know you can microwave it with the husk on and silks intact and still come out with a perfectly cooked clean cob of corn? It’s true! And it only takes 2-3 minutes to cook in the microwave!
Method:
1- cut the stem@end of the cob off to reveal the end of the cob where the kernels start (like in the photo above)
2- place in the centre of the microwave and cook on high (full) setting for 2 minutes.
3- for thicker/larger cobs, microwave an additional minute.
4- set aside for 3-5 minutes to let it cool in its own steam
5- with oven mitts or a clean dish towel to cover the top end, give the cob a squeeze for the cob to come out cleanly at the cut end. No silks!

Add butter, salt and pepper. Serve with your bbq fare!

Spice it up by using butter, lime zest and chilli or smoked paprika for a little added flavour.

🍽️ Hunger isn't about bad choices. It's about the math not adding up.
In Guelph, that means 5,000+ people turning to every month and 1 in 3 are just children. This September during Hunger Month, we're asking you to do something about it: by making a monthly commitment of just $20. That’s just $5 a week. Can you help us provide healthy options to those facing food insecurity?
Consider a monthly donation today! Link in bio

🍽️Hunger isn’t caused by bad choices. It’s caused by income that can’t cover today’s cost of living — and support systems that don’t fill the gap.

In Guelph, that gap is real:
☝️upwards of 5,000+ people supported every month in GFB’s network alone
⬆️ 40% jump in visits since early 2025.
🧑‍🧒‍🧒More than 1 in 3 are children

🗓️September is Hunger Action Month. To learn more about food insecurity and the decisions one might have to make to make ends meet, start by trying Feed Ontario’s Fork in the Road tool —Link in comments.

Understanding the problem means that together, we can work towards a solution to end hunger once and for all.

‼️ The Bridge Builders program has been extended ‼️
Between our seasonal food drives, the gap doesn't close — the need in Guelph doesn't take a season off, and now neither do our Bridge Builders.

🎒 High school students can now earn community service hours year-round by running their own food and fund drives for Guelph Food Bank. This isn't a one-time event — it's an ongoing way for students to help bridge the gap between long-term food security and what our neighbours need right now.

✏️ Sign up however works for you:
🟠 On your own
🟠 With a few friends
🟠 As a full team, club, or class

However you build it, it counts — toward your hours, and toward real impact in this community. Sign up by emailing [email protected] today!
