June is Seniors Month, and we're celebrating the many ways older adults continue to make meaningful contributions in our communities.

Residents of the Wellington Terrace recently took part in the new 'Working Wellington' programme, an initiative designed to foster purpose, responsibility, and community engagement for residents living in long-term care.

Participants began weekly volunteer roles with the Wellington County Library Aboyne Branch and Wellington County Museum and Archives, supporting staff with a variety of tasks. They also rolled up their sleeves at the Arthur Duck Race, assisting the Arthur Lions Club with ticket sales and duck tagging, and helping Wellington North Fire Service staff at their public education booth.

Thank you to our community partners for welcoming and supporting the programme!

Meet Toomas, our youngest Experimental Acres Farmer!

At just 10 years old, Toomas is proving that age is no barrier to agricultural innovation. With support from our Experimental Acres programme, he's built a chicken tractor to rotationally graze his egg-laying flock alongside his family's goat herd at River's Edge Goat Dairy.

This increases soil nutrients, boosts biodiversity, adds organic matter, and sequesters carbon, all while improving his chickens' nutrition through pasture grazing. Toomas recently conducted his first-ever soil tests (pictured here), comparing results to track the impact of his project.

Toomas is one of twelve Wellington County Experimental Acres farmers this year, all working hard on regenerative agriculture projects.
