MISSION
Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis is a feminist community-based organization providing services to women and their children on woman abuse and sexual violence. VALUES
Safety: All women and children have the right to live in safety and dignity. G-W Women in Crisis is committed to creating environments where all women feel safe. We build safety through healthy practices of inclusion, respect, self-care and confidentiality. Self-Determination/Choice: G-W Women in Crisis will respect the choices women make about their own lives. We support and advocate for women’s individual and collective right to make their own decisions. Client-Centred: Women know their own experiences and needs best. G-W Women in Crisis will respect each woman’s right to determine the services she needs, based on her wishes, concerns, values, priorities, perspectives and strengths. Equity: Every woman will be treated equitably at G-W Women in Crisis. In order to increase accessibility and equity, a broad range of innovative and differentiated programs and services will be developed and offered based on individual and community needs. Intersectionality: G-W Women in Crisis will recognize and respect each woman’s unique lived experience and her individual and multiple relationships to: race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status, record of offences, receipt of social assistance and disability. Equality: The root causes of violence against women are societal, and the solutions lie in changing values, attitudes, behaviours, structures and systems to achieve gender equality. G-W Women in Crisis will advocate for equity and social justice in an effort to address and eliminate barriers to inclusion. Systemic Change: G-W Women in Crisis will work towards creating social systems and institutions that are rooted in equality. Systemic change enacts changes beyond individuals, individual organizations, single problems and single solutions. Partnerships: G-W Women in Crisis will work in consultation, collaboration and partnership, seeking input and sharing information to develop strategies and actions to advocate for and work towards ending violence against women and children. Conflict Resolution: G-W Women in Crisis embraces the practice of critical reflection, which includes accountability, questioning, and challenging ourselves and others. We are committed to respectful ways of challenging and practicing healthy conflict resolution. Change is Possible: G-W Women in Crisis believes the potential for change in attitudes, behaviours and systems is possible. Education: G-W Women in Crisis supports and creates opportunities for education. We will share our skills, knowledge, history and understanding about the causes and solutions to ending violence against women and children with our community.

Family Court can be confusing and overwhelming, and we work very hard to make sure support is in place as our clients navigate the court system.

Here we are all set up for our monthly info session! Here we give folks a basic introduction on what to expect from the court process and tell them about the services we can offer to assist them to get the best outcome they can.

No commitment is required!

If you've experienced abuse and are worried about attending Family Court, call us and learn more about how we can help.

It's common to feel like there's not much you can do if you experience s*xual harassment, but you might have more options than you think.

Unsure of where to start? You can try these legal supports:

Shape Your Workplace: a collaboration of community legal centres that provide Public Legal Education for workers and employers on their rights and responsibilities, free legal advice to those impacted by s*xual harassment at work and assistance to employers in developing appropriate policies for addressing s*xual harassment in the workplace.

Website: shapeyourworkplace.ca

Human Rights Legal Support Centre: Legal services to Ontarians who have experienced discrimination contrary to the Human Rights Code. Services available in 140 languages.

HRLSC also operates “SHARE.” The Sexual Harassment and Assault Resource Exchange (SHARE) is a service that supports workers who have experienced s*xual harassment or assault at work. They provide free, confidential legal information to workers about all their available options.

Phone: 1-866-625-5179

Pro Bono Ontario is a non-profit organization with a free Legal Advice Hotline that offers up to 30 minutes of free legal advice and assistance with civil law matters in Ontario.

Thanks to TELUS for these beautiful backpacks, filled with paper, exercise books, writing and colouring supplies and a pencil case!

These backpacks are a part of a Telus program called Kits for Kids, which supports families in need of a little extra help with the high cost of school supplies.

Courtesy of our good friend Dominique O'Rourke for Guelph, we were selected to receive these kits for the kids staying at our intimate partner violence shelter, Marianne's Place.

These kits will help our kids thrive at a difficult time and we're grateful for them!

Not sure about whether something "counts" as s*xual harassment?

It's about a lot more than someone making overt s*xual advances - it's about you having the right to feel comfortable in your gender wherever you work, go to school or live.

Need support around s*xual harassment? You can reach us at 519-836-1110 or find out more about our programs at gwwomenincrisis.org

Happy Pride Month, everyone!

We're raising the flag on today, but we celebrate and raise our voices in solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities every day!

2SLGBTQIA+ folks experience higher rates of s*xual violence and intimate partner violence than straight people, speak out less and face higher barriers accessing supports.

+ folks are also leaders in the work towards a world without gender-based violence and we celebrate that work.
