Last night our team responded to a call of a woman in active labour at her residence. Fire crews had already forced entry to ensure access, and paramedics arrived shortly after. Within minutes of their arrival, a healthy baby was delivered safely in the family’s living room.

While EHS led the medical response, we were proud to provide support, scene security, and ensure pets within the house were cared for.

Calls like this are a reminder of the important roles of all first responders.

Congratulations to the family on their new arrival.

Winter Driving Safety Tips from Your Military Police

As winter settles in, road conditions can quickly change, making driving more challenging. As members of the Canadian Armed Forces, we know the importance of staying safe while on the road. Here are some essential tips to help you navigate safely during the colder months:

1. Check Your Vehicle: Ensure your tires are properly inflated and suitable for winter conditions. Keep your windshield washer fluid topped up, and check that your defrosting system is working efficiently.

2. Slow Down: Reduce your speed, especially on icy or snowy roads. Allow more space between your vehicle and others to account for longer stopping distances.

• Speeding in Winter Conditions: Fines for speeding can range from $110 to $1,000, depending on how much you exceed the posted speed limit. Unsafe speed for winter conditions could result in additional penalties or charges.

3. Be Prepared for Emergencies: Carry a winter survival kit, including blankets, non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, and extra gloves and hats. A shovel, salt, or sand can also help in case you get stuck.

4. Clear Your Vehicle: Before hitting the road, clear all snow and ice off your vehicle, including the roof, windows, and lights. Snow can fly off while driving, causing hazards for others.

5. Stay Alert: Winter conditions can create unexpected hazards such as black ice or snowdrifts. Stay vigilant, keep your headlights on, and avoid distractions while driving.

• Driving Without Headlights in Poor Visibility can result in a fine amount of $170 to be issued for not using headlights in low-visibility conditions, including snowstorms and fog.

6. Know When to Stay Home: If the weather is too severe, it may be safer to stay off the roads. Always trust your judgment and avoid unnecessary travel in extreme conditions.

Your safety is important to us! Let’s work together to make sure we’re all prepared and cautious on the roads this winter season.

Stay safe, stay vigilant, and drive responsibly. 🚗❄️

Members of 24 Military Police Flight here at 14 Wing Greenwood, including Sailor First Class Eric MacRae, left, and Sergeant Ryan Stokes, sport their new ball cap headdress.
The MP ball cap is now authorized for wear by credentialed officers during the conduct of police duties, functions, training and operations. Throughout the fall, the MP ball cap was distributed to MP detachments across Canada and abroad.
The optional headdress, designed to be worn with MP duty gear, addresses the need for safety and comfort of MPs in the unique environments the Canadian Armed Forces operate in. Stemming from feedback from personnel, the importance of this optional item was apparent.
The design, with the 360-degree police markings and distinctive red trim on the brim, allows MPs to be recognizable from many angles to both the public and other law enforcement agencies.
The MP ball cap is a controlled item, issued to each member based on insights from the Mass Casualty Commission. Members are accountable for this item, similar to other components of their uniform. MP/ MPOs will still have their distinctive red berets available for wear with other orders of dress, including the occupational patrol dress. Future updates, including a new design for a new MP operational headdress, are anticipated.
