was pleased to be part of the 2026 SPARC Symposium Funders Panel. It was a great opportunity to share more about how the Sudbury Community Foundation operates, granting opportunities, and tips for writing effective applications.

We also really enjoyed connecting with so many talented artists, learning about their work, the challenges they face, and discussing the value of collaboration. Gatherings like this are a great reminder of how much stronger we are when we share knowledge and build community together.

Last week, SCF’s Executive Director, Shelley Lachapelle, had the honour of participating in a Fireside Chat at the Community Foundations of Ontario Peer Gathering, alongside Sharon Avery (Toronto Foundation) and Andrea Dicks (Community Foundation of Canada).

The conversation was both candid and inspiring, exploring important opportunities around collaboration, collective action, trust, advocacy, and the power of local relationships.

Shelley, our Executive Director, was in Kanata last week connecting with peers from over 30 Community Foundations across the province. It was an inspiring opportunity to exchange ideas and learn more about the intentional, community-building work happening in both rural and urban areas to address issues, including housing, belonging, advocacy, and trust.

Last week, SCF had the opportunity to take part in several meaningful initiatives focused on education, awareness, collaboration, and community building. Samantha, one of our newest Board Members, attended the Victims and Survivors of Crime Week Lunch and Learn—here’s what she shared about her experience.

“I attended the sold-out Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking lunch this week in my role as a board member with the Sudbury Community Foundation, and I’m still thinking about the powerful stories that were shared.

Sudbury is home to AOH, the only organization in Northeastern Ontario dedicated exclusively to long-term, free support for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation and their loved ones. Sitting in a room full of community leaders, advocates, and survivors was a reminder that human trafficking is not a “somewhere else” issue - it is here, and it demands our attention.

Thank you to Angels of Hope and the incredible speakers for the education, courage, and hope you brought to the room, and to the Sudbury Community Foundation for helping make this work possible. I was grateful for the chance to learn and listen, and to stand alongside the amazing people at my table who are equally committed to building a safer community for everyone.”
