Good afternoon Laker Families,

Just a quick reminder regarding communication with the school when there is something time-sensitive that we need to know. For example, if you are picking your child up from school, your child is not taking the bus, or there is any other change that requires the school to take action that day, please call the school directly.

If you are changing your child's end-of-day pickup arrangements, please call the school by 2:00 p.m. Whenever possible, we need adequate time to communicate the change to your child's teacher and ensure that dismissal arrangements are updated. Changes received after 2:00 p.m. cannot be guaranteed.

While we do our best to monitor Edsby messages and emails throughout the day, our staff are not always available to check these platforms immediately. As a result, we cannot guarantee that an email or Edsby message will be seen in time, particularly when it involves a change to your childโ€™s dismissal or transportation.

If it is important that we receive the information promptly, please call the school rather than sending an email or Edsby message.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

Have a great evening!

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› **LETโ€™S TALK ABOUT DSAS!** ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

โœจ **WHY DO WE WALK?** โœจ

Every year, our Down Syndrome Association of Sudbury community comes together for our **Annual Walk** โ€” and this year, weโ€™re walking together on **October 4th, 2026!** ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

But this walk is about so much more than simply putting one foot in front of the other.

We walk to **raise awareness.**
We walk to **celebrate Down syndrome.**
We walk to **support our families.**
We walk to **build a more inclusive community.**
And most importantly, we walk to make sure that every person with Down syndrome is **seen, valued, included, and celebrated.** ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

The **Down Syndrome Association of Sudbury (DSAS)** is a community that brings families together, provides support, creates opportunities, spreads awareness, and helps ensure that individuals with Down syndrome have a strong voice and a place where they belong.

Our annual walk helps us continue that work. Every person who joins us, donates, shares our posts, wears their blue and yellow, or simply shows up to walk alongside us is helping make a difference. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŽ‰ **JOIN US FOR A DAY FULL OF FUN!** ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“… **Sunday, October 4th, 2026**
๐Ÿ“ **Lockerby Composite School โ€” Sudbury, ON**
โฐ **11:00 AM โ€“ 2:00 PM**

And this isn't just a walk! ๐Ÿ‘

Weโ€™ll have **๐ŸŽˆ inflatables, ๐ŸŽจ face painting, ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ a celebratory lunch, ๐ŸŽ‰ fun activities, and SO much more!**

Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring your biggest smiles and, of course, **wear your BLUE & YELLOW!** ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Because this day is about coming together as a community and celebrating the incredible people who make DSAS what it is.

๐Ÿ’™ **Every step matters.**
๐Ÿ’› **Every voice matters.**
๐Ÿ’™ **Every person matters.**
๐Ÿ’› **Every story matters.**

And over the coming days, weโ€™ll be introducing you to some of the **beautiful faces behind this walk.** ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Weโ€™ll be sharing some of the amazing individuals and families who make up our DSAS community โ€” their stories, their smiles, their journeys, and the reasons **they walk.**

Because behind every step is a story.
Behind every family is a journey.
And behind every blue and yellow heart is a community that believes in **acceptance, inclusion, and celebrating every single person for exactly who they are.** ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

**So Sudburyโ€ฆ are you ready to WALK WITH US?** ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ“… **October 4th, 2026**
๐Ÿ“ **Lockerby Composite School, Sudbury**
โฐ **11 AM โ€“ 2 PM**

**Letโ€™s fill Sudbury with BLUE & YELLOW and show just how strong our community is when we come together!** ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Families in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island can access the 2026-2027 Guide for Students and Parents/Guardians online.

A link to the publication has been shared with parents/guardians. Students will receive the 2026-2027 calendar card to bring home the first week of school. The Guide and the calendar will serve as a handy reference throughout the school year.

Rainbow District School Board Chair, David Farrow, extends a warm welcome to new and returning students and staff in schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island. โ€œIn Rainbow Schools, we instill in students the skills they need to lead independent and productive lives and become responsible and respectful citizens who care about each other and the world in which they live,โ€ he says.

Chair Farrow encourages parents/guardians to take an active interest in their childโ€™s education. โ€œWhen parents/guardians value education, students value education.โ€ He adds: โ€œWhen the home, the school and the community work together, we maximize learning opportunities for students and help them achieve their full potential.โ€

Chief Executive Officer Bruce Bourget says the beginning of a school year is an exciting time filled with hope, energy and new adventures. โ€œOur caring staff are ready to provide safe, welcoming and uplifting school and classroom environments. In partnership with parents/guardians, we strive to support each student through the pursuit of academic excellence and overall well-being.โ€

CEO Bourget thanked parents/guardians for joining with dedicated staff to give students every opportunity to pursue their interests and passions, develop their skills, experience hands-on learning, and open doors to a bright future. โ€œStudents who are fully engaged in school life by attending classes regularly, embracing the effort, and participating in sports, clubs, and events develop a strong sense of belonging at school and a connection to their school community,โ€ he says.

He adds: โ€œWhen parents/guardians make daily attendance a habit, encourage children to try their best, and take an active interest in their childโ€™s education, it shows that school matters. To our students, embrace your curiosity, rise to the challenge, be kind to each other, work hard, and make this year fulfilling and memorable as you follow your dreams.โ€

The Guide for Students and Parents/Guardians contains information about services, programs, policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct, as well as opportunities for parents/guardians, including School Council. It also features key dates, such as school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days and system-wide events.

There is still time to register. Contact the Rainbow School nearest you. A directory of schools is available on rainbowschools.ca.
