Today, Fire Chief Scott Booth and Firefighter Carter Verhelst attended the 15 Wing Moose Jaw Immediate Response Team (IRT) Familiarization Visit, an important initiative focused on strengthening collaboration between emergency response partners.
The visit brought together professionals from various agencies to build relationships, improve communication, and enhance overall preparedness in the event of an emergency. Hosted at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, home to one of the busiest Royal Canadian Air Force aerodromes in the country, the session highlighted the very real risks associated with high volumes of aircraft activity.
Participants were reminded of past incidents, including the 2017 CT-156 Harvard II crash, reinforcing the need for strong coordination between military and civilian response teams. Given that 15 Wing’s airspace extends over many rural communities, including areas within our region, the potential for emergency situations occurring locally is something all departments must be prepared for.
This familiarization visit served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships, improve response readiness, and ensure that, should an incident occur, all agencies are equipped to work together efficiently and effectively for the safety of our communities.
