Our thoughts continue to be with the residents of Port Hope Simpson, who are still facing the threat of a forest fire.

We commend the Town of Port Hope Simpson on their tremendous commitment to keeping residents informed and providing support to first responders, emergency personnel and volunteers assisting with firefighting over the last few days. nakummek.

NCC and our business arm Nunacor are, therefore, pleased to provide a total of $3,000 to the Town to help them with providing the much-needed food and resources required to manage an effort of this magnitude.

🌟 Celebrating Our Youth 🌟

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate the incredible young people of NunatuKavut in honour of International Youth Day!

We received submissions highlighting youth for their achievements, perseverance, creativity, leadership, community spirit and connection to culture. From all eligible submissions, one youth from each age category was randomly selected to receive a $250 micro-grant.

Congratulations to our recipients:

🌟 Category 1 | Ages 13–18: Allan Toomashie, 13
Originally from Cartwright and now living in Labrador City, Allan is a proud Royal Canadian Sea Cadet who has earned several awards since joining at age 12, including recognition for perfect attendance. He is also a talented young artist who enjoys painting, beading, 3D printing and creating T-shirts. Allan loves returning home to Cartwright, spending time on the land and water, and staying connected to his family, community and NunatuKavut culture.

🌟 Category 2 | Ages 19–30: Victoria Keefe, 25
From Black Tickle, Victoria is a second-year Bachelor of Nursing student at Memorial University and a graduate of the Practical Nursing program at College of the North Atlantic. Her journey through post-secondary education has required tremendous perseverance, and she has continued working toward her goal of a career in nursing despite many challenges along the way. Victoria has also been recognized for her community spirit and is described by her family as resilient, nurturing and deeply kind.

Public Notice — Port Hope Simpson

Important Update for Residents of Port Hope Simpson

A wildfire is currently burning in the Port Hope Simpson area. Residents are being advised to prepare for the possibility of evacuation and to remain alert for further instructions from local authorities.

The town has advised that a water bomber is on its way to assist with firefighting efforts.

Please stay informed through official updates from the Town of Port Hope Simpson and emergency authorities, and be prepared to leave if an evacuation order is issued.

Our thoughts are with the residents, firefighters and emergency personnel responding to this situation. Please stay safe and look after one another.

We are now accepting pre-orders for NunatuKavut flags in two sizes:
• 24" x 36" – estimated $50–$60
• 27" x 54" – estimated $80–$100

Please note that prices are estimates only. Final pricing will be determined once we have confirmed the total quantity of flags being ordered. We will be in touch after the deadline regarding final pricing, payment, and shipping/pick-up details.

In honour of International Youth Day on August 12, help us celebrate the youth of NunatuKavut by highlighting a youth and telling us about the amazing things they're accomplishing in their communities and beyond!

Whether it's volunteering, leadership, academics, sports, culture, the arts, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurship, or another achievement, we want to showcase our inspiring youth!

If there is a young person in your family or community that you wish to highlight, please send us:
🔹 Their name and age
🔹 The community they are from
🔹 One photo of them
🔹 A brief description of their accomplishments, achievements, or contributions. Please also let us know if they received post-secondary funding from NCC.

Submissions will be accepted in two age categories:
🔹 Category 1: Ages 13–18
🔹 Category 2: Ages 19–30

🎁 One youth from each category will be randomly selected to receive a micro-grant of $250!
